EPC light right after oil service
Hi there.
Had our 2016 VW Tiguan oil serviced yesterday by our local garage at 44,000 miles.
Collected the car and on the way home the EPC light came on and the engine went into limp mode. We’ve never had a problem with the car before this.
Rung them first thing this morning and they said to bring it in but it could be a heap of different things. He said it may well need to go to VW.
If there is anyone mechanically minded out there, what are your thoughts? To me, it went in for a service and has come out with a problem that didn’t exist before it went in so they should fix it. Though despite a fair bit of googling I can’t tell if it’s possible if the service and EPC light could be linked.
Any thoughts?

I dont think them changing the oil makes them liable for any fault that may pop up afterwards.
Maybe the problem is a sensor or EGR valve or leaking injector or something - which would have nothing to do with changing the oil, unless the damaged something while changing oil or used the wrong oil.
You need to get the fault code read and see what the issue is.0 -
It seems like too much of a coincidence that the light came on after taking it away from the garage? It must be linked to the work they did somehow?0

Is it just the EPC light, or has another light come on as well?
There's a variety of reasons for it to come on, none specifically related to a minor service - unless a wiring connector's got disturbed, but you'd expect that to be on straight away rather than getting half-way home. Fault codes will point to the reason.0 -

We live 1.5miles from the garage so it isn’t far at all.
Yes it’s just the EPC and the engine wouldn’t allow acceleration above 50mph which I believe is limp mode?0 -

How many miles after the service do you think would a warning light would not be related to the service. You just cannot jump to conclutions.0 -

I’d say driving out of the garage and down a country lane for less than a mile makes it reasonable for me to suspect that the person who has just been performing work on the car may have accidentally done something...0 -

If they'd "done something", it's far more likely the light would have come on the moment the car was started.
Until you get the fault codes read, it's all guesswork.0 -

Yes yes, all well and good - but have you actually had the codes read yet?0 -
Was it just an oil service? Anything else changed? Could be anything, needs the code read.0

P.S Have you checked the oil level?!0
