Both of them look rather old too so not a recent arrangement.

Looks as if the previous owner got a combi boiler and a few radiators under the old Government scheme.  It's doesn't appear to have proper central heating.  I remember those radiant reflector heaters from times past, they work after a fashion.  
I can't help but like the house, though, and it's in a nice place.

Maybe the owner died and their family have been round and baggsied what they want by sticking a post-it note on it.
