O/S Daily Thursday 30 January 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was pasta in a creamy tomato sauce, with breaded chicken portions for the menfolk, I had sausages with mine and a side of mushrooms. Tonight I'm cooking for the menfolk, and then going out for dinner with work colleagues.
Yesterday work was all or nothing, and I had a couple of difficult cases to deal with, I'm now on days' off until Monday although working again on Saturday morning.
Today I have all the normal "to do" list jobs to get on with, first thing I'll be heading into town to visit the bank and building society, then to the jewellers to sort out what's happened to DH watch they have had to replace a battery which now seems to have gone missing! To say we're not happy is an understatement - as it was bought with money he was given for his 50th birthday and now no-one seems to be able to locate the watch - I'll be wanting to speak to the Manager and get the details of the Head Office Complaints dept - I went in last week and they advised they would find out what was happening and I've heard nothing - customer service is not their strong suit evidently. I also have to speak to the Bank as the new bank card and pin no. I was told 2 weeks ago was being organised still hasn't arrived - customer services seem's to be none existent anymore! I will then crack on with normal household chores I need to get done.
Keep safe and well x

Morning all
Cold here and I think frosty but rain due later and for most of the day I think, off to work for me Thursday clients are lovely so it should be a nice day.
Pork fillet for dinner tonight with mash and veg, I think dd is home earlier today so she can do the spuds for me and put the pork in the oven.
I will put a wash on before I go to work only towels etc and will have to use the TD tonight.
Pup has her second puppy training tonight.
Have good days all xx0 -
Good morning everyone :hello:
I managed to get a few more hours of sleep than usual so I feel a lot better. Pain always seems worse when I am tired and I spent a lot of yesterday feeling very teary. A new day now though and I have had some marmite on toast so I am ready for it.
I have nothing planned for today except some more card making. I am really enjoying my hobby but I feel I am going to run out of family and friends to give them to. Never mind there are worse problems to have.0 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. I hope you get some answers today about DH's watch. I agree about CS these days, it seems no-one is bothered anymore. Much milder this morning with a dry day forecast and set to reach double figures (10 deg!) by lunchtime.Wow!
Nice day out as usual with the Golden Girls yesterday. We ended up in Otley but, by heck, it was rather parky. We wandered round a few cs and the 20p shop and then onwards for lunch (and wine) in front of a nice roaring fire.
Shopping day today. DD picking me up on her way with the school drops. It will probably just be Aldi but with DD it could be anywhere! Still just f & v and dairy on my list. So hopefully another frugal one.
Not sure which of the DGDs are here for tea. DD and eldest going to see An Inspector Calls at Bradford Alhambra, middle one here after school and DD's lovely chap taking youngest to the swimming club and picking middle DGD up after. I may be feeding one or may be feeding all three after swimming. I might just do a big pan of Bolognese and do spaghetti when each arrive. L/o can be frozen.
Sparkle eventually ate the food with the Evening Primrose oil on yesterday so I have just put some more on her breakfast and she's eaten that too. I hope it helps.
Have a good day all. ((HUGS)) as always for all in need of them. Take care one and all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Good morning, it's dry here, and I don't think it's as cold as yesterday.
Thanks NMLC - hope you find out what's happened to your DH's watch,
TA food and wine in front of a roaring fire sounds pretty good!
Dumpling hope today is a better day for you. You were asking about my new die cutter, it's the same as yours. a Si*zix Big Shot, and I love it. Thanks for the tip about dies on *Bay, I'll certainly look there.
Nanny, re shops closing. our High street used to be busy, people came in from surrounding villages to the market, but it's not like that now. I think the out of town retail parks have contributed to the decline. Having said that I use the out of town places as much as anyone, there's usually no problem with parking, and it's free. Don't know what the answer is.
Today it'll just be housework tis morning, and the usual last Thursday of the month cardmaking session. I can walk there, but Dh takes me, my cardmaking bag is heavy.
The new shed arrived yesterday, just as well because a bit of the roof blew off the dilapidated old one last night. DH unpacked it and checked a everything was there, don't know if he's going to make a start today, or wait till Ds is here on Saturday.
Hope everyone has a good day anyway.
Take care folks0 -
Hello everyone
Pretty pink sky this morning, and very calm.
Planted two cherry trees yesterday. One in the garden ( I let DH do that one!), and one in a big pot ( which I kindly did). Not sure what is happening to the potted one but it was BOGOF so we couldn't leave it behind. Will probably give it to someone when we're sure it's surviving.
DD and her OH coming for tea today so will be making chilli in the slow cooker. Other than that, not sure what's happening. Need to set up new Kindle and might have a look at a dress I started making last year. Just a look as I can't even remember how far I got.
dp1 I do hope you get some good news about DGD soon. It's such a worry for you all.
Happy Thursday all0 -
Morning everyone,
I can't believe we're 4 months into the year and it's still January! Payday tomorrow thankfully.
What did I do yesterday...stayed in work an hour then quickly went to the gym, I was in and out in an hour. Then home to make dinner, do some bits and bobs and went to bed at about 9.15, which I felt the benefit of when the alarm went off this morning.
Been to the gym and feeling good. May nip in again after work for a quickie again, I quite enjoyed that. Got my weekly catch up with my gran tonight so I'll have a blether with her for an hour or so. Got some ironing I'd like to do too, so I may kill 2 birds with 1 stone there.
Hope everyone has a wonderful day!0 -
Morning all.
This morning I have loads of recycling to take to the tip. Finally, DM is engaging in clearing out years of paperwork. There is a whole cupboard full of box files with accumulated stuff. Yesterday she worked through three or four (lying in her bed still) whilst I did another one or two. The shredder was on the go a lot. :j
I've also got a dental hygienist appointment to cheer up my day!
Happy Thursday to everyone.0 -
Morning all.
Today it's damp, grey and very foggy, the total opposite of yesterday.
Dad came for his tea and went home with another goody bag, I think his freezer must be bursting with all the stuff he goes home with. Never mind, I know he has plenty of food in the house if he can't get out and I'm only down the road in case I'm needed on an errand of mercy.
My trip to town was successful........ light bulbs finally sourced and easter eggs bought in Tes*o at half price. Add to that I found a £6 off voucher in my purse when I needed to pay. So it was a win, win day :j.
Today it's day 1 of painting. Mr Fix It has collared the roller as he can stand on the floor to paint and I'm on the "cutting in", because I'm short enough to stand on the worktops without hitting my head on the ceiling :rotfl:. Looks like we will need the lights on though as it's so dark this morning. Good job I bought those super bright bulbs yesterday eh ? It appears I'm also on refreshments.
Tea tonight will be a ready meal, sorry OS'ers.
Scarlet we don't have out of town retail parks near by ( about 7miles away ) but we do have a "super" town. You can get almost anything there, from electrical goods to food to clothes. Good timing with the sheds too.
Speky Me thinks you have lost the plot this morning. 4 months in and only January and a " quickie " later
. What a day ! :rotfl: Enjoy whatever you do and I hope the ankle is really on the mend.
Happycas Me, Me, Me, for the extra cherry tree please !
Dumpling glad you feel better in yourself today. Keep your chin up lovely.
Anyone seen Holly lately ? I hope you are OK if you're reading along.
Right tea and bacon butty break over, I'd better get covering things over, ready for himself to start painting. I'll join in the painting later.
Take care all. Hugs to everyone.
nan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently0 -
Just back from a trip to Aldi, its fine but rather chilly, was glad to get back in the warm.
Our Drs are no longer accepting prescription requests over the phone, you either have to use the internet or take the forms in, so I had a trip to put ours in. The surgery was full and when I came out the road was blocked with the bus, cars parked on both sides of a narrow road. Had to hoick people out of the waiting room to move their cars. The woman bus driver (no way can I call her a lady) was very loud and verciferous in her demands........not nice at all........LC is a large village and the road through has a number of bends......the Drs car park is not specific to the surgery so is often full and people have not choice but to park as best they can on the road. The rant as the bus drove through was horrendous, I learnt a few word I had not heard before!!
Shopping away, just have a cup of tea, need to sort out supper, we are out this afternoon, so need to have stuff prepped before we go.
Electricians did not turn up yesterday, they are hoping to come a week tomorrow.........I am dreading having to have it done, it means moving so much furniture. Mind you, they can do it, no was are we.
OH is still on nursery food, chicken in white wine sauce and rice tonight, I got a couple more chocolate pots for dessert. Things should be back to normal tomorrow.0 -
Morning all! Damp here too but it means nothing to me as today is fill the boot up again and gather the furniture that's going to the charity tomorrow. I'll be taking the draws out of the chest of drawers upstairs and slidiing the carcass down the stairs
Also going out with old neighbour for drinks tonight so that's my day pretty much sorted.
Dumpling, chin up lovely, did you get your new socks? TA, thank goodness, hope it works for her! Gers, again, huzzah! Don't let her leave you like our parents left us....with mountains to sort through ....nanny, don't fall off the worktop! Hope everyone is getting to grips with January the eleventy-leventh! Hey all reading along, Time to shift into higher gear Thursday !Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0
