SKY v Virgin Media

Options
Right - my husband and I have decided that actually for us this is a DFW as we both love sport watch every major event but usually at our local, therefore we would save money by watching it at home. Our budget is £55 a month,

This is to be paid for from our BT budget and 10 a week from our going out budget, there for it will not add to our SOA.

I have spoken to both companies and made an opening gambit of I will go with who can charge me the best deal that I would go with. We have agreed that if we go with Sky the the + box will be our xmas present to each other - so far they have come down to £129 but as that is on the web I am sure I can get them down a bit more!

Who has what and what is the advantage and disadvantage of either.

I have virgin and it sucks, I can't have sky because I'm not allowed to put a sky dish on the house (loads of rules in this neighbourhood). Virgin crashes at least once in an evening, the on demand thing is really hit and miss when it works and their customer service is pants.

I work for VirginMedia and am trying to bring them down from the inside...everyday I bring in my own lunch, borrow a spoon from the canteen, and then take it home with me inside the empty lunchbox.

Not since we had a report of a rat in the building....the fruit gets left out for days and the thought of rodent piddling all over it puts me off!
  • It really is swings and roundabouts.

Virgins standard box is not a + box, so no recording. BUT, they do have catch up on demand and content on demand (Not everything is available).

Virgin has no Sky One, or Sky news anymore, but it does have Virgin One, which is trying to be a rival to Sky One.

With Sky you can have every single channel available, if its in the UK you can have it.

I think Sky is very expensive compared to Virgin.

My Virgin TV has been broken for a month or so now, finally got them to come out. They have been very good to me, e.g refunds, deals etc .. I have to say when my box was working I haven't had any other problems.

Virgin crashes at least once in an evening,

You must be unlucky. I have had a virgin box for two years (Virgin + for a year) and it has never crashed.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.

  • Yup they are - so are virgin - it is the permutations that you come up with when speaking a human that can make a difference - you see very dfw, so far have managed to get a free second box for the bedroom with VM!
