My house sale has been stopped due to a 15 yr old CCJ that I can not explain and I can not look into as credit reports only go back 6 years. To say old CCJs don’t matter is obviously not the truth and I have lost my buyer and have no idea what to do!!

So how do they know about it then ?
It’s not registered anywhere, how do they know ?

Stays on your credit file and the register of judgements for 6 years, after that it’s expunged, so where have they got the information from ?

More likely a charging order if it is stopping the sale

Genuine question: Why would a charging order stop a sale? I thought the whole purpose of a charging order was to ensure eventual payment when a property was sold.

If there aren't enough sale proceeds to cover it? (on top of mortgage redemption etc). At the very least the OP would need to know how much needed to be paid, and they don't seem aware that the debt even exists.

A quick trip to the Land Registry site would stop all the speculation and add [some] clarification.

You do not have to declare a county court judgement after it has expired, the 6 year rule is there for a reason.
I’ve never seen a form that asks you that one anyway.
The usual questions are have you ever been bankrupt or had an insolvency solution.

When applying for visas, the CCJ question comes up often..."have you ever had" rather than "do you have". Also relevant for certain career paths ie accountant or lawyer.

Apparently (after some googling) after the six years is up, the 'slate is wiped clean'

What I meant was....Having a CCJ on your credit file is gotta be bad....even if it’s marked as paid ?
    Thoughts ?

From my understanding when your issued a CCJ at month zero you have one month to clear it without affecting you for the next six years, from month one till year four (assuming you pay the CCJ during this time) the CCJ is seriously harming any credit applications, from year four creditors take the view 'you messed up perviously, but have learned your lesson' From year 6 what CCJ?

On visa applications? I'm intrigued. How many countries even call these sort of things County Court Judgements?

Genuine question, any example of a country whose visa application asked whether you have ever had "CCJs"?
