Claiming back standing order made in error

My Dad had to move out of his nursing home as it was costing down. My Mum didn’t cancel her standing order and has now made 3 extra payments. I have tried to explain to her that it was her responsibility to cancel the SO and that the company haven’t ‘taken’ her money. The company has now closed down. Do you think there is any way to get the money back? I have tried emailing the owner but had no response.

Highly unlikely. Was it a Ltd company? If so, what does companies house say?0
-
Your only way is via the company the payments went too. Nothing a bank can do on standing orders.Life in the slow lane0

Yes it was a ltd. companies house doesn’t say anything to say it isn’t still trading (if that’s the right terminology).0

Are you sure it's a standing order? If it was a direct debit you could claim the cash back from the bank under the direct debit guarantee scheme.
Apologies for asking, but many people seem to confuse DDs with SOs and think that they're all the same.0 -

I was wondering this too - I'm surprised a nursing home would be paid by SO, surely a DD would be more likely.0 -
She seems certain it’s a SO but I will get her to double check. If it’s a DD would it be different? (Sorry to sound stupid!)0

The nursing home was owned by a limited company?
The nursing home has closed but the company may still be in existence as may its bank account. Indeed if the payments haven't bounced back then the bank account is still open?
You should check on whether the payments were DD or SO - either way they should be cancelled.
Does the company have a registered address?0
