Oh for the good old says of standing stage door and getting your autograph for free.
These days some celebs want £20 for a blooming selfie.
I have friends who still go to all the conventions and fairs and I am amazed at how much some 'celebrities' want for their autograph.
There are good celebs still out there who will sign for free as long as you don't take the mickey , but I do buy a book if there is one on offer. The last time I saw Ben Aaronovitch he signed the new book I bought from his stall, but also 2 other older books that I had with me, which I thought was really nice.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I do the odd fair, mostly because I have a Supernatural poster thats signed by 99% of the cast now and I'm missing just 2 signatures on it to be happy with it.
(If you're reading this Jim Beaver and Samantha Smith I need you!!)
It has got ridiculous though. There is a con local to me where they dig up z listers and charge £25 a signature, same guests at most of these smaller cons. At some point they will have met most of the UK I think.
London Film and Comic Con is usually a good one for big guests though, but again the prices are extortionate. :eek:0 -

Sometimes it is possible to get their agent to get a book signed. I've known some people have found the agent or management company, arranged to send a book in , and send a pre stamped bag for the return once signed.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Not just eBay have the really dumb fake autographs. I was at a proper B and M auction once where they had a book about Princess Diana that included her death - catalogued as 'signed by Princess Diana'. When it was pointed out to them it took them a while to twig what people were laughing about..0

A well known illustrator draws each kid an individual picture with his signature. Much to the annoyance of his agent.Warning: any unnecessary disclaimers appearing under my posts do not bear any connection with reality, either intended, accidental or otherwise. We go to a lot of children's book events and some authors are spectacularly lovely. A well known illustrator draws each kid an individual picture with his signature. Much to the annoyance of his agent.
Before Terry Pratchett became really famous he always went the extra mile for fans, I have signed books where he's written small verses and drawn funny pictures, he really cared for,his fans and is sadly missed.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Also a good example of when celebrity can over inflate prices..0 -
When we met carrie fisher she asked my daughter what colour she'd prefer. Daughter responded with "your favourite"
This is why we have a multicolour carrie fisher with every letter a different colour. It took ages. She also signed it from Gary
As for Attenborough, send in your book with a pre paid return label. You never know. Worst case you've lost a book.
When DS was small he used to write to F1 drivers and almost always had a signed reply. Jaques Villeneuve sent him a signed cap. It's always worth a letter.0
