Do Cadent normally muck people about?
Options
They are supposed to be replacing the gas pipes locally with plastic. So far I have been told (in this order) end Oct, beginning of Nov, beginning of Jan, beginning of Dec. Just been told after enquiring by phone about what is going on - no plans to do the work at all. I assume it will be all the unfortunate customers who will be paying for this (as in us - remind you of smart meters anyone?). Does anyone have any idea what is going on. Not Cadent obviously as they don't seem to have a clue!

You don't even state where 'locally' is, so that is one reason why nobody seems interested.0

The same here in Shropshire. First warning letter, then letter giving a window of dates when gas would be disconnected; then nothing. This cycle repeated twice months apart. I rang them and they were completely disinterested. "It looks like it has been cancelled; don't know why"0

Its scheduled work.
It will have been put on the back burner due to safety critical work taking a priority, such as replacing leaking gas mains.
Of course you pay for it, its all rolled into your standing charge, like you pay for smart meters with the standing charge, like you paid for the traditional mechanical or digital utility meters before smart meters.0 -
Cadent subcontract their mains replacement work to two strategic partners depending on where you are in the country: Balfour Beattie and TRIO. Communication between them all is rather shocking hence the failure to provide an effective customer service and broken notification process. Roll on RIIO2.0

Agreed.
However we have letters giving dates and we have to make arrangements to have someone home before connection to purge connection to boiler etc. Then nothing - silence, no letters0 -

Exactly! I have now been told that if I can't be home they will turn the gas off at the street, but my central heating will have been on all that time.
Just to explain to those who think I should not be worried - last time I let a 'gas worker' inside my house some years ago to change the meter. On that occasion they left me with a gas leak at the meter. So I am highly unlikely to trust them to get it right.
Regarding paying for it - I do know we have to pay for it, but how much EXTRA are we paying for them keeping on sending out letters, having to cancel our holidays & presumably paying for customer services to keep feeding us duff information0
