Suitable alternative role

Hello there, a long term lurker and occasional poster in the forums
I have a bit of a conundrum and was wondering if any of you kind folks might be able to offer me some advice/ help.....
I was put at risk of redundancy in December of last year as essentially the job I was doing would be absorbed into another department, however, I was told there is a suitable alternative role for me and I would be given a 4 week trial in this suitable alternative.
The alternative role is nothing like my old role, by means of the status of the role is much more junior and type of work I'm doing is not comparable and there basically is not a lot to do (I'm basically doing nothing for most of the day).
While doing nothing might be ideal for some, it's certainly not for me.
The company say they have "benchmarked" the salary for this alternative role as the same as my previous role, so my question is, during my review of this role with HR, are there any things I should be asking them?
The outcome I'd like is to be made redundant or given a real alternative role with a proper salary, the reason I'm saying I'd want redundancy is because I'd like to start my own business.
Please help?

My limited understanding is that if you trial the 'suitable' alternative role for the 4 weeks and find that it's not suitable for you, you can then take redundancy instead. I think that's the whole point of the trial period, in other words, it works both ways.0

When did the trial start?0
