It's been a while but since this comes with an HD+ box I'd say no as it doesn't (from memory) include any apps at all.

Just resurrecting this. Is there really no way to somehow take advantage of this Sky Essentials package AND be able to access the main 'players'? No tech workaround or fix?

The sky website states that it comes with the Sky+HD Box which includes Sky versions of BBC, ITV, 4, 5 and other freeview channel catchup services which shows the same content but not in the 'player' app format as on other services (see picture below for Sky version), if you wanted the proper apps you could contact Sky and ask if they could upgrade the box to Sky Q (they are unlikely to do this, Sky Q only has apps for BBC, Netflix and Spotify)

If you aren't happy with using the Catch Up service shown below, the only other option would be to purchase a device like the Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV or Chromecast (Roku being the most affordable option, with Chromecast everything is done by mobile device)
