Help with British gas complain

Options
Hi,

Im writing for my parents.

We own a small food business, we recently just been billed £17,000 for an years worth of electricity. Furthermore on my account it wrote that I used over 30,000 KWh per year as well. Which I don't think is correct.
The bills have started racking up after the installation of a smart metre (EDMI ATLAS MK10D)

I have escalated my complain through ombudsman and I'm wondering right now is there anything else I can do?

Thanks

It will all hinge on proving your usage.

Since it is an EDMI MK10 polyphase meter (right? think is is the 10) it holds half horly consuption on the meter. Request this from British gas and tally it up yourself. (should you not have signed up to anything to see your data online (if you have go download it).

Are you contracted? Commerical out of contract costs tend to be very high, so if they are right on consuption it all seems feasable.

Not much else you can do. But again, look at your contract. work out your usage and work out what it should have cost yourself.

Additional: Further thought. Is the meter running as a CT setup. If BG have the ratio incorrect that could cause a higher bill. You would need to know the ratio the meter is set to and the actual coil ratio to compare.
  • Thank you for your reply.

Furthermore, I have one more question.
Before we have escalated the situation the bill stood at approximately £7,000.

But after the escalation it had increased to approx 17,000.

    I don't get how that works ?

    Thanks

This may be associated with their contract -has it run out ?

Download their bills and look at the unit rates and standing charges
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

Maybe they looked at it and found unbilled usage and made the account up to date. Would make sense when a complaint comes in.

It feels like you are missing a lot of information that you would need to support a complaint.

You should be able to track both the billed usage and the contracted rates so you can determine if it is the energy used that you are complaining about, or a change in the cost of the energy.

Without even that basic analysis I'm not sure how far you can get with a complaint if you are only basing it on a change in the billed cost...

Why do you think the bill is not right?
Why do you think the consumption is not right? (e.g. does the bill say something different to the meter, or are you suggesting the meter is wrong?)

What was British Gas's response to your complaint?

Are you using the word 'escalated' (escalation) in the second post in the same way you used it in the first?

If not, what do you mean by it in the second post?
