O/S Daily Tuesday 28 January 2020

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those looking after a poorly person x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying a first cuppa and my porridge. DS2 settled and happy.

Dinner last night was fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg. Tonight will be either pork chops or LO roast beef.

Yesterday work wasn't too bad until close of day procedure, went wrong again and had to call engineers to remotely fix it - we have to leave at our going home time now as company won't pay us to stay - there's been less than a week of days since tech was fitted that it's worked properly all day and at the close of business procedure - to say we're all getting fed up is an understandment! I'm working at the other office today and have an early finish.

Keep safe and well x

  • Good morning, it's cold this morning, dry at the moment though. Yesterday was very cold as well.

Instead of going to Tai Chi this morning, I'm meeting a friend who I haven't seen since about last September - she spends 3 months abroad in the autumn/winter and has just returned.

Dgs will be here when I return at about 12, we'll get out for a walk this afternoon, weather permitting, we might go to the park and feed the swans.

Dgd came after school yesterday as usual, she's into jigsaws at the moment. I'll have a look in the CS's to see if I can find any more.

We'll be out tonight to the quiz, and that's about it for today.

Gers, hope you are feeling better, old parents can be so difficult. My Dad never thought he was wrong about anything, so didn't see the need for apologies.

Hope everyone has a good day.
    Take care folks.

Snow this morning but it looks quite slushy, will go out early to defrost the car.

It's payday! It's been a long time coming but having to budget carefully and not dip into savings has been good for me. I have a haircut booked for tonight after work so hope the roads are OK.

There was heating yesterday at work thank goodness, hopefully the fault has been fixed. The boiler house must be warm as the Janitor keeps disappearing down there!

Hope everyone's well, take care. XX
  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Oh no - we have a covering of snow! The older I get the more I hate the stuff. It's not supposed to last so it's fingers crossed.

The funeral yesterday was different, it was a graveside humanist service. It covered the story of her life which went a long way in explaining why she suffered the problems she did. Her boys were justifiably upset, as were a lot of other people. We were invited back to their house for a buffet. I would have happily passed on that but DS thought we ought to go. As I didn't know anyone it was a bit of an ordeal for me. I don't do socialising well with strangers.

It's back to normal today. Tuesday meet up with friend for coffees and lunch. It's been confirmed our venue is to close so soon we will be on the lookout for somewhere new. Oh well if all else fails there is always Wetherspoons!

Sparkle is booked in at the vets tonight. She has been on antibiotics since I adopted her, for a little skin problem under her chin. Without expensive tests that the Rescue place didn't have the funds for, the vet doesn't really know what is causing it. It keeps re-occurring and usually responds to steroids but then comes back. This time he was trying anti b's and wants to see her after the course. It looks fine at the moment but, if it's par for course, it will return. It doesn't seem to bother her so what it is remains a mystery.

GERS it was good to see you back with us. Difficult elderly parents are hard to deal with and there's no easy answer is there. My own mum was not demanding as such but she was very manipulative all my life, and always ended up getting her own way. This got increasingly worse throughout her illness (Parkinsons and dementia) but by then she had lost the ability to be subtle about it.

I have got waffling on so ((HUGS)) for all in need of them - be it people, babies or animals. Take care all, especially if you too have snow. x

  • Good morning and thank you for starting today's thread nmlc.

It is just getting light and bitterly cold. I have paperwork to do today and will have to clean the kitchen floor again, the mess fairy has been here.

    Gers, I do sympathise.

Hope everyone has a decent day.

    Hello

Thankfully no snow here. I quite like it but DH hates it and takes it as a personal insult!

Made it to yoga yesterday. Really good after a week off, and there's a space in the class for my friend to start next week. Will be nice to have her there but we'll still need our weekly coffee meet. Not much chance for chatting in a yoga class!

DG children came for tea. They had lots to tell us; certainly cheered life up a bit.

Quiet day today. Supermarket for me while DH stays in to await a delivery.

Happy Tuesday, all, snowy or not.

  • Good morning chums,

Yesterdays work day centred around talks of me going to Switzerland on a business trip on Wednesday (tomorrow) but the decision was made at around 8pm that for the price, it couldn't be justified. I'm not all that bothered from a personal perspective, as it was going to be a super mad 36 hours and I'm just getting back into a routine. So my evening was spent doings bits and bobs; meal prep, a healthy dinner, providing meter readings, updating my music, reading, washing the bedding, going for a shave and having an early night.

Up and at em this morning with a good gym session. My ankle has put a stop to many of my extracurricular activities, so my evenings are free for now. I might nip back in after work for some light stretching and the like. Not much else planned.

Arranged to see The Girl From Chester again this Saturday. She's still really under the weather and is waiting on a date for some surgery, so I realise I'm not really seeing the real her as she can't really do much at the moment. I'm seeing this as an opportunity to get to know her better and that'll perhaps make me more confident in deciding how I feel.

TA - Enjoy your day and I hope little Sparkle isn't terrified of the vets and gets on ok.

It seems bright here at the moment but it is icy outside and we're due wintry showers throughout the day.
Well yesterday's prepping was a very slow affair and "Yipee !"- not, we get to do more of it today :(. I'll be happier when we're onto the painting ! Last time I did it on my own when Mr Fix it was at work, but I don't remember it being this hard......... it's 1hrs work and then we need 15mins break . Old age has crept up on us I expect. Firstly today I need to remove more paraphernalia from the other side of the kitchen. That's the trouble when you have been in a house for over 30 yrs I suppose, you collect all sorts of stuff. Mr Fix It has a collection of more spices than a takeaway :rotfl:
Tea last night was the leftover beef and chips, it will be a freezer dip for tonight, anything quick and easy.
Well tea and toast finished so I'd better get on with it. I think next time we'll have to call in the professionals...... no, not the men in the white coats, the painters and decorators :D. (Although they usually do wear white overalls hmmm  perhaps by next time I won't know the difference :rotfl:)
Gers I'm sorry your DM is being unkind to you, I know how hard you work to help her and you don't deserve her ire or attitude. I've ranted enough on here about my Dad and know how awful and upsetting it can be, so rant away if you need to. I'll put her name forward for the "one way ticket" charabanc. :D. Special hugs for you my friend. :A
taff I hope you feel less " fuzzy " today. If you're coming to Wales soon don't forget your jabs :rotfl:
TA I'm glad yesterday went as well as it could. Take care when you're out today. No falling over please!

Take care all, enjoy your day if you can. Hugs to anyone in need.
    nan xx

    Good morning folks.

Thanks for the sympathies, your own experiences make me feel less alone. Last night DM woke me at midnight to tell me that the Wi-fi router was flashing red!

It's very chilly outside. I only need to go out to collect something from the Mail delivery office so I'll wait a while yet.

My walking gait is improving still, I'd say it was 90% normal. :j Still doing the exercises, two of them show me that the hip abductors are not quite 'there' yet though a long way from early post-op.

Time for a shower - happy Tuesday to everyone.
