Does cancelling an application affect anything?

Options
Hi, I was attempting to signup for a prepaid card by Cashplus (called a Freedom card) but instead it seems I've signed up for a Current Account by mistake, the website didn't make it clear, I only knew of it when I got to the final page and it requested ID documents in the email.

So I contacted Cashplus and explained and I asked for the application to be cancelled since it isn't what I wanted, when I asked if it would affect my credit score they said "a little bit, yes".

I checked their website further and they say applying doesn't affect credit score, so I don't know what to believe.

Can anyone help answer? Does cancelling an application like this affect my score?

Perhaps, but that doesn't matter as it's not seen by anyone but you.

Your files will show the search. Whether that causes them any concerns, depends on the bigger picture.

If a score that no one else can see bothers you then yes.

Lenders see your history, maybe your file will show a search was carried out.
  • Many thanks for your responses.

I don't know much about credit scoring, I don't really have a credit history, I opened my first ever bank account just last month.

I checked their site again which states on their front page...

"No credit checks to apply. Instant approval once we verify your details."

Yet I was told differently on the phone. :(:(:(

I'll have to phone them again tomorrow to check.

    Thanks again.

If anything is added to your file then it will be that a search was carried out by Cashplus.

I wouldn't bother about if it was me.

    Completely agree.

Why are people spending so much time massaging their files?

No lender will give two fudges about an aborted current account application.
