Hello,
I've got about £60k to invest and I was thinking to buy a house and rent it out but someone told me to have a look into airbnb or student property investment as well...
Can I ask if anyone had any experience with them ones, please?
Or can I invest £60k better somewhere else?
Thanks a lot

Lots of cities will be clamping down on Airbnbs in the coming years I think. Edinburgh has already started this process as they're wreaking havoc in some parts of the city and exacerbating the housing shortage.
With airbnb or student lets you're going to basically be running a business. Are you prepared to put in the time? If you want to get an income from your investment without the hassle then perhaps Investment Trusts that would be a suitable alternative.0 -
If your sole purpose for this £60k is to make the best total investment return you'd be better off investing the money in a globally diversified portfolio.
You can read loads of previous threads where people have asked the same question as you, just search for threads containing 'lump sum' in the subject.
If you have any specific questions you can post them here alongside further information about yourself such as age, are you married, any children, renting or owner, pensions, ISAs, other assets, debts, what you want from life/goals/objectives, your favourite pizza toppings, coke or pepsi etc..."If you aren’t willing to own a stock for ten years, don’t even think about owning it for ten minutes” Warren Buffett

Look out for strict and onerous HMO rules and abolition of section 21 when considering letting to students.0

I have a friend that runs some apartments via Airbnb, it's a full time, 7 day a week business. Is this what you want?0

I used to own a few student lets.
This was a constant source of frustration and angst . . . as well as being a total drain on my time.
Chasing payments, repairs, cleaning, redecorating, gardening, sorting out constant arguments, recruiting . . . the list goes on.
So glad I don't have them anymore! My advice would be to look for a less stressful investment, unless it's going to be your full time job.0 -
I don't think you'll find many on here recommending buying property to let in whatever manner is a good idea nowadays.0
