Training course booking on credit card section 75

Hello I’m new to this site and have a question sorry if I have posted in the incorrect thread.
I’m just about to book on a training course that costs £14,000 I have to pay up front for the course the company have been going for a while but I’m worried that if they go into administration I will be left with no diploma and would have lost £14k I would like any guidance on if I book the course on a credit card would I be able to claim my money back if the company folds within the 2 years of my studying before I graduate or would it lapse once I start on my course. Any help would be greatly appreciated

  • Section 75 applies to the provision of the service or product bought.

So if the promised service isn't delivered, you would have a potential claim.

The credit card company would be jointly liable with the course company for damages resulting from 'breach of contract'.

So you need to read the contract carefully to see exactly what it promises (although you should do that anyway).

    For example,
    • If the course company goes bust before the course starts, your losses / damages would fairly clearly be £14k
    • If the course company goes bust halfway though the course, or it becomes clear that the course is not what was promised, it might be harder to agree losses / damages.

(But even if section 75 only gets you part of your fees back - you would probably get nothing without section 75 cover. So it's worth having)

If they go bust then a chargeback would cover it.

£14K for a training course? What are you training for?

Not something that you can get locally via a collage/university?

You don't say what the course is for or how you hope it will benefit you. Please do lots of research into both the company and the course before you part with your money, especially if it is being sold as something that will make you more employable. I know people who have paid out believing they were doing an accredited course and once they'd finished found out that the certificate wasn't worth the paper it was printed on.

Obviously if it is a course you are doing for your own enjoyment and getting a £14k credit card won't be an issue for you then ignore everything I've just said.
