Getting to grips with my debt!
Comments

Great progress, and you seem to be on top of what was motivating you to spend in the first place.
Have you thought about how to keep focused as the debt goes down? Might be something to bring up in your therapy appointments.0 -
So today I picked up my keys for my new flat. I move in on Friday.
I have been living in shared accomodation for several months at a cost of £90 per week, sharing with 4 other adults. Not ideal, but it has been a necessary evil.
My new flat is all my own and comes in at £300 with all bills, council tax etc included. BARGAIN!
Today I realised my new place only has a fridge. Ouch, I need a freezer for batch cooking and bargains.
So, I'm in the process of looking for a cheap 2nd hand chest freezer in good clean condition.
I'm hoping that I hear back from an advert on Gumtree for a £50 chest freezer in excellent condition. Fingers crossed!
Regarding getting my bank account out of its overdraft permanently......
Today was payday (I am paid fortnightly) and after my pay going in my balance is £318.06
This balance will undoubtedly dip back into the overdraft during the next 2 weeks as direct debits, a freezer, food and petrol will all need to be puchased. Another major OUCH factor is that my house move has necessitated a week off work.
This all kinda means that on my next payday on the 12th February this balance may be worse than it is now, BUT from that point onwards things will only improve fortnight on fortnight.
Blimey the financial mess I must now tidy up eh.
Anyways, that'll do for today.
Hoping I hear back about the freezer soon.0 -
Good luck in your new place. Let's hope it's the fresh start you need. I'd give it a few months and maybe look again at whether you can move some more of the credit cards to a 0% I've luckily managed to get all mine onto two cards now that are 0% for 20 months yay!*Dad loan - £5300 - £7400
*Virgin Credit Card - £3552.50 - £0
*Natwest - £1828.35 -£0
Barclaycard - £2315.25 - £0.00
*Total debt - £7400/£10680.85*

*Savings Buffer - £1000/£1500
*Emergency Fund - £1000/£1500

5 adverts on Gumtree messaged re freezers now.
I must be patient!
Not my strong suit at times, lol. :rotfl:

My patience has paid off, and quickly.
I have never bought anything second hand before, apart from cars.
Tonight that has changed!
I am super happy to have bagged a bargain 2 year old, 100 litre chest freezer in immaculate condition for only £50.
The same model in Curry's would be £120 new.

A thoroughly successful day!
I picked up the 100 litre chest freezer. It is in "as new" condition. It even has the manual and receipt with it! £50 = BARGAIN!
Only spent £3.66 on food today.
I think i am getting into the swing of the frugal mindset required to clear my debt.
Tomorrow I move house. I am excited! :j0 -
Hope the house move goes smoothly. What I do not give, you must never take by force.

HI Andy - well done for making a start. Pleased for you that you have your own place now too. Will any other CCs with 0% accept you? Sometimes if you've not missed a payment - you can also ring up and try and get them to give you a better rate. Worth a shot.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030
