A dashcam is really useful these days with all the crash for cash scams and congested roads / bad driving.......front and rear if you can, and have the funds for it, or just front (most popular).

You do not need them to be installed by Halfords or anyone else, most plug into a 12v socket - but if you want a permanent installation with wiring neatly hidden away, then an auto electrician / ICE installer would be best. Halfords will not do certain makes / models of car and the installations are sometimes a bit dodgy .....but they are convenient.

I have Nextbase 412 and 512W models in my cars, they work very well. The newer one has a rear cam option as well to integrate with it.

I have front & rear just plugged into the 12v sockets. There's about 2" of cable showing for the front one, I might wire it in properly one day but it isn't so simple on modern cars.
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.

I've had quite a few. From a cheap G1W that lasted a good few years, to a more expensive Blackvue 605 front and rear set up that I hard wired along with a battery monitor to allow parking mode.

I gave the Blackvue to the OH when I gave up my car, so now I have a car and will be doing high mileage I'm looking at getting one again. Think I will go with the Aukey front an rear set up.

Fairly well priced and well reviewed. Got it for my father in law and he seems happy with it.

I wouldn't pay people to hard wire it in. It's a pretty simple job and just requires some piggyback fuses, crimping and heat wrap and a bit of time researching on YouTube. The time consuming bit is routing the wires to hide them, but certainly not difficult.
  • I got the Nextbase 322 with rear can. Also got Halfords to fit. Cost was 180 all in but I think it's a bit cheaper now.

Great and easy to set up.
  • I would personally go with a pair of nextbase 512gw. They have excellent night vision far better than the windscreen and connects to Alexa. At Christmas they reduced them to 119 each and expect the same with Easter approaching. We tried the duo and the rear visibility was not very good. Have them hard wired but invest in a large media card as you never know when you will need it.

    All the best.

There's a forum that handy for fitting issues and problems.

I run a couple of Mni 0805's with GPS hardwired in to the fuse box with simple hardwire kits, cheap as chips and work perfectly.
