Investing in Hedge Funds

Is it possible for an individual to invest maybe 20-30k in a hedge fund?
Specifically I'm interested in the Children's Investment Fund.

If you meet the minimums and they sell directly or you have a broker, then sure. But why would you want to deal with the fees and possible restrictions?“So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.”0

perhaps he's been reading this about Bill Miller

It's pretty specific, as there are not many internationally renowned $billion hedge funds known as the Children's Investment Fund.
TCI Fund Management is the UK regulated firm involved (though the actual fund and its feeders or subsidiaries will be in Cayman and Lux).
I doubt they are looking for investors with £20k tickets. If you're not friends/family of the managers it's almost certainly more trouble than its worth to vet you and let you into the fund. £20-30k is retail investor money, not professional client private capital investing.0 -
If you want to go with one of the biggest, then I'm afraid £20k won't get you near the door....
Bridgewater generally requires that its Clients have a minimum of $5 billion of investable assets
Note that they certainly don't expect or want you to give it all to them, but their minimum fees kind of back up the above....
For new client relationships, Bridgewater’s standard minimum fee is expected to be $500,000 for its All Weather strategy, $1,000,000 for its Pure Alpha and Pure Alpha Major Markets strategies, and $4,750,000 for Optimal Portfolio.
Or if you can't quite manage that, never fear, there is another way now....

You still need 25 times your £20k though.....0
