I'm in a new build where BG were the initial supplier and that is who your supplier will be from day one.

You need to contact BG to confirm your details, set up a new account with them and get that up and running.

Once you have this in place you can then commence the process of organising the supplier and tariff that you want. To do this you will need the meter identification numbers known as MPAN for electricity and MPRN for gas. If you have an account these can be found at the top of your bill but as you won't have a bill yet you will need to contact BG for the information.

Even with these to hand some smaller suppliers may not recognise them if there databases aren't up to date. I tried to switch to Octopus but the MPAN and MPRN weren't accepted.

If you plan to stay with BG then that won't be an issue.

Even if BG and Bulb agree that Bulb are your new supplier you will still have been contracted to BG when first moving in as any switch of contracts takes some time. Therefore you will still have to pay them for usage up to a certain point in time.

    Hope this helps.

Sorry I'm still rather confused and the only way I can understand is to lay out a timeline of events.

Don't over complicate things. BG are almost certainly still the supplier at the new property.

Just contact them, set up an account, and ask them to block any switch to Bulb.

In the unlikely event that they say they are not the supplier, come back here for further advice.

If you really want to you can try to confirm the supplier, using the advice of posters above or online tools. Google "who is my electricty supplier?" and there may be a website for your region.

But you're 99% certain to end up calling BG anyway.

    Update

I was directed to Scottish & Southern and they did in fact tell me that Bulb are supplying my electricity (the provider I switched with). They said that would have come to effect when I became responsible for the property (10th January). I'm happy to stick with them. What will British Gas make of this?

At least I can still set up an account with them for the Gas, as PFP Energy never took attention of the fact that I emailed them back before Christmas when they were transferring customers over from Better Energy. I found out via this link (https://www.findmysupplier.energy/webapp/index.html#) that British Gas are the gas supplier.

Is there anything else I need to consider?

You need to call BG and see what they suggest..unless the switch was initiated 21 days before you completed on the property than you will owe BG for the period until Bulb took over.
