O/S Daily Sunday 26 January 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH watching catchup tv, I'm enjoying a first cuppa whilst on here, DS1 went out last night, so he got in during the early hours, so don't expect to see him for a while yet. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner yesterday was a prawn vol au vent with chips and caponata for DH, I had prawn vol au vent and caponata - vol au vents were a use up from the freezer. Menfolk are apparently going to defrost the outside freezer today. Lunch today is going to be roast beef, will do the normal with it.
Yesterday we visited the parents, so today can be a chilled day.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning
We are so lucky. Another bright cheerful day today.
I made a cake with ground almonds and polenta for when gluten intolerant DD came for tea last week. My advice? Don't do it. It is now in the garden for the birds....and so far only the blackbirds are showing any interest! It tastes fine but it feels gritty in your mouth. Maybe it was the wrong polenta but I won't be trying again!
Had a trip to nearest town with said DD yesterday. Very strange. Although almost half the shops are closed, there were lots of people about. Was very pleased to see that our newly revamped market is thriving.
Another chilled day on the plans.
Happy relaxing Sunday, everyone0 -
Morning all
Dull and overcast here atm and we are dud rain later and all afternoon, I think we will get the dogs out earlier today before the rain.
Roast beef for dinner later with swede and carrot and cabbage and roasties will do some Yorkshires too will do enough for two days so we can have it for tomorrow too.
DD is going to nip to the shop for a few bits and we all need to have a good clear round as we didn't do it yesterday.
Pup is having her morning nap so all quiet atm chaos will resume once she is awake.
Right better get on have good days all xx0 -
Morning All
After yesterday's dry and breezy day it's pouring down this morning but still breezy. Glad I got the house cleaned and aired yesterday. The washing was almost dry, just need to put it away.
RR - how do the dogs get on together?
Nothing pressing today but must go out at some point to get some birthday cards, may do some sewing and get the machine put away before DS1 and the DGC come over next weekend.
Happy Sunday, take care. XX0 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Snippets of blue sky emerging here and the forecast cooler weather has yet to arrive.
Sparkle was banned from my bedroom last night after going in psychic cat mode at 11.00 p.m. and viciously attacking the curtains again. She sidled off into the back bedroom sulking. I've had numerous cats over the years, both permanent and temporary residents, and never had one such hard work as Sparkle. I'll need lots of patience until she gets over her bad start in life and time in rescue care. In among her psychic modes she can be so loving and affectionate, just wish she'd stay like that!
The last of the Xmas topside in gravy is defrosting for my lunch. I'll have it with last of the swede and carrot mash and assorted veg I think.
The DGDs performed their last panto show last night, after 35 performances, but have to go back for today's final show which the other team of Sunbeams are performing in. They want everyone on stage for the Grand Finale. DD is visibly wilting with all the driving back and forth and chaperoning she has had to do and not sorry to see the season end! The girls of course wish it could go on forever!
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for the poorly folk, babies and animals. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning folks.
Yesterday turned into a day from hell which has made life here with DM so much more difficult.
I need to get out today and damn the weather! There's some stuff to take to the tip, there's also a bag for a CS if one is open.
Happy Sunday folks.0 -
Another late get up, I am now setting the bed tray at night so I do not have to do it in the morning. We will have to get up tomorrow I need to be out early doors to go to the Drs.
Bright sun, not sure if its cold, have not put my nose out the door yet.
Yesterday I cooked the piece of pork, will cut it today, I reheat it in tinfoil on top of the veggies, what is not needed until later will be put into packs of 6 slices against other meals, and frozen.
Gers I am sorry to hear there is trouble in the ranks, keep your chin up girl.
TA cats climbing up furniture etc is one of the reasons I will not have one. My daughters cat has ruined one of her chairs scratching, even though there is a sratching post for him.
So supper today, pork, roast spuds, cauli, carrots and calabrese. Jam sponge for dessert.0 -
Morning all,
It's another damp and foggy day.:(
I didn't have a good night's sleep last night, lots of weird and disjointed dreams . At one point I was in Liverpool going to catch a ship ! I have no idea what that was about and I've never been there, but it was so vivid I felt I knew the place inside out. Previous life maybe ?
Today is lunch with Dad day and we're also having beef. Great minds and all that ! It's already bubbling away in the slow cooker and smells mmmmmmmmmmm ! There's only the veg to prep now.
I used up a stale baguette in a bread and butter pudding last night and it sat in the fridge over night. It's now awaiting a turn in the oven, ready for teatime. I'll grate a sad apple and sprinkle sugar on the top before cooking.
Right another cuppa calls. I hope everyone has a reasonable day
Take care all
nan xx
PS. Gers I hope today is less hellish for you. Hugs xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently0 -
Good morning everyone :hello:
I was awake every 2 hours through the night again so I gave up and came downstairs at 4am. On the Brightside, I was able to chat with my lovely sister in law on Facebook as she was suffering from insomnia as well.
Sending you a big cwtchy hug Gers, I don't know why you had such a hellish day yesterday but you sound very upset about it. Hope you can recover your equilibrium and good humour xxx
I am going to have a wash and get changed and I need to wash what remains of my hair. To add to my joys it is falling out in handfuls and I didn't have much hair to begin with. I am sure it is to do with the trauma of being so ill last year. I hope it grows back or I will need to get a hat to wear.
No roast today, I have postponed the shopping delivery until tomorrow so we will be having freezer surprise. It will probably end up being spaghetti Bolognese as we have some garlic bread that needs to be used up.
Right, I am off for my scrub, hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Oh dear Gers, I hope things get better today.
Happycas, snap. not even the birds will eat mine.
I spent quite a lot of the day providing telephone support to Laura who was feeling very sleep deprived and weepy. They're trying to transition Esben from the hammock he's been sleeping (very well) in to a normal crib and he's not very happy about it. we'll be going down this week to give her a bit of a break.
I made soup with the left over beef brisket yesterday so that might be tonight's dinner. I want to review the freezer contents to see if I can get away without buying much more this month because I've exceeded my grocery budget, such as it is.0 -
Oh GERS you sound so down and not your usual self. Whatever happened sounds to have really upset you. I hope things can soon be sorted between you and DM and life can get back on an even keel. This hasn't been an easy year or so for you. xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0
