The Norton update could be the problem, you won't find many Norton fans here. You could uninstall Norton and try one of the free alternatives. May also be worth changing the wireless channel on the router.

Well personal opinion and from what I've seen of comparitive tests any of AVG, Avast or Antivir (all free versions) would actually be better than Norton. You may need to use the Nortno removal tool as well from http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039 as it tends to want to cling on to your system.

Glad you've got your connection back, but if it keeps happening where you get intermittent connection then I'd definitely try changing the router's channel. It could be someone nearby is using the same or nearby channel and that can sometimes cause connection problems.

Not sure of the specifics of the belkin but just go to the router settings page (through your web browser and type in its IP address, something like 192.168.0.1). There will be under the wireless settings part something actually called "Channel" ranging from 1 to 13. Just choose something completely different. You may need to try a few if there are a lot of wireless networks in your area.
