missplant

hello everyone, I am just looking for some advice as I have an upcoming holiday.
My boyfriend has one arm but isnt registered as disabled. I have booked extra legroom seats on our flight from Muscat to the Maldives in March. the seats are the emergency exit row ,
I have read the T+Cs and while Oman air can remove him/us for any reason from these seats. I just wanted to know if anyone has any advice or been in a situation where they have been asked to move.
thank you

Unfortunately I don't believe your boyfriend will be allowed to sit in an emergency exit seat.
Passengers sitting close to exits may be required to open doors and help assist the crew to evacuate other passengers in the case of an emergency.
As with any airline, passengers have to be fully able bodied and between a certain age to sit in these seats. It is actually rules that the the aviation authorities in the operating country stipulate that the airlines then have to abide by. The airlines may then enhance these minimums with there own standards.
Here is what our CAA stipulate -

Here is what Oman Air stipulate -

I would select other seats now and hopefully you will be able to pick seats together which are more suitable.0 -
I'm not sure Oman air would allow your boyfriend to sit in an exit row, as having one arm may impair his ability to open an exit door. It's probably best to give them a call and find out what their position is, and what they can do if this will cause an issue.
On the plus side, Oman air are great, even the standard seats from memory have a lot more legroom than the average airline, and the food was pretty good last time I flew with them.0 -
Why did you book the exit row? Better to book row 20 at the front.
Oman Air...seats on check-in are supposed to be free. But when I checked in, all the seats were marked as chargeable.
Their customer service was useless, telling me firstly that free seats were only available three hours before flight time...which is obviously nonsense. They could not choose the seats manually for me, as they would need a credit card to pay for the seats. Ridiculous. Added to that, no one replied via the Feedback form.
I took the chance and selected the seats without entering the credit card details for payment as requested and found they were held at the airport anyway.
So, I wouldn't hold out much hope for any service if something goes wrong.0 -
thank you everyone for your replies, I booked the exit row seats as they were the only ones showing extra legroom that i could see, the plane is boeing 737-800. I have put myself next to the exit door and him in the middle. But yes I will have to agree with you all that moving will be the likely hood.
these are the only seats ive pre-booked so I wont lose too much money if they ask us to move. I am hoping on check in we can select seats next to each other for free.0
