I’d be happy to be composted, no coffin required, maybe a sheet for the sake of funeral attenders!

Whilst down this rabbit hole I read that in principle coffins aren’t a legal requirement but a covering is, so a shroud is your covering of choice.
Life is like a bath, the longer you are in it the more wrinkly you become.

Nothing about anyone's funeral wishes should be disgusting to anyone else. They don't have to witness it. Death is a part of life, just as birth is.

Maybe they don't have to witness it.
But Great Aunt Clara may have hysterics at the sight of the thing in the OP's link. :D

I'd be happy with that. You don't have to be on display at the front of the room.

I stumbled upon Ask A Mortician on YouTube - I love the way she views death and she's shown some really nice/cheap/eco options.

A bit too stark on reality for my liking, and probably incredibly distressing for close relatives to have the actual corpse on view, even it it is wrapped in a shroud.
I think a funeral service should be able to leave a little to the imagination if only to allow loved ones to be protected from the worst of the stark reality of it.
Not for me, although a covered wicker coffin would be OK

I don’t think anything protects loved ones from the stark reality tbh.

When you’re looking at a beautifully ornate wooden box covered in flowers, you don’t see any of tha, you just know the person you love is in there and never coming out, :(

    I do get that.
But I think I'd rather see a 'beautifully ornate wooden box' or a wicker casket or a cardboard casket with a design that reminded me of the deceased than this (which looks like a badly trussed chicken):

But that's just my opinion. :)

I think of some kind of sealed coffin acting as a sticking plaster to cover a wound is more acceptable. . It doesn't make it any better. It just perhaps makes a very painful emotional situation slightly more visually acceptable to bear.

Definitely not the item in the link but did attend a funeral where the coffin was wicker and adorned with some flowers, not OTT, and it looked really nice. Prefer that to a faux mahogany and brass set up

That is what my BIL had, with small flowers woven around the top. He hadn't specified a particular coffin, but oh and myself knew he would have approved of the wicker one we chose.
