In the process of purchasing a buy to let, a closing date has been set tomorrow on a property we are keen on, I'm getting wobbled by the current global picture, don't know whether or not to proceed.
No harm in delaying, it’s a given prices are going to be much lower looking forward
By which time the mortgage offer may have expired. If you're a cash buyer you're king and I'd probably reduce the offer sharply on that basis.
The question is will the banks survive the first quarter 2020?

if not what are the consequences of a total financial meltdown?
  • Your post is highly irresponsible and quite frankly stupid silvertooth.  Its not anything like AIDS.  When you have no medical qualification whatsoever please keep your mouth shut and adding to the misinformation that the internet spreads.
Just report the guy. I just did.
We had silver ramping on these forums forever, but spreading misinformation and conspiracy theories about Covid-19 is a whole different matter.

One thing we all need to remember that once a critical mass of people are affected, it will soon affect nearly everyone! No one can escape. You may keep yourself confined in a basement for 2 weeks but as soon as you come out, you are vulnerable.
Only real defense is your body immunity - until vaccine is discovered (which won't happen soon anyway).
Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.

Fit and healthy people simply need to catch the disease and help improve our herd immunity.  What we need to try and do is let this happen in a controlled manner and when people do inevitably catch it stay away from the vulnerable in their family.

In that case, rather than locking everyone in country why doesn't the govt. ask only the vulnerable to stay inside??

I would imagine thats more an economic consideration than medical.  If the whole "healthy" adult population gets the virus at the same time and has to isolate themselves then the country would grind to a hault.  Smoothing the infection curve over a longer timeframe mitigates against this.
Its a valid point and I'm sure someone wiser than me can answer the question better.

It could be a ploy to push the lock down during Easter Holidays when most people will be on holiday anyway - thus less impact on economy.
Although there is already a massive impact on economy. Some airlines are days away from going bust, travel and hospitality industries are suffering, stock market down etc.
