Advice regarding stock and share ISA

I'm a young adult with a very good disposable income looking to invest some of my money. I already have BTL and a reasonable saving and looking for a long term investment.
I have looked at the vanguard company and interested in the S&P 500/global index. The lifetime60/80 has also caught my eye.
My current train of thought is to do a direct debit of £100-200 a month, maybe more at a late date.
Essentially I want to invest in something for 10-20 years and forget about it until then.
I know it's difficult to predict the market, but what would you advise in investing. The small amount of research I have done all pay praise to the s&p 500 index

Thanks,

    Thanks,

Probably because most general investment reading matter is US based. You need to be careful as some things that are recommended may not apply in the UK. In the UK it is better to focus on Global investments. Also, in your reading beware of any recommendations linked to tax. The US system is quite different to that in the UK.

And are you confident that it will provide your desired income at your desired retirement date? If you have BTL income then putting additional money into pensions can be very tax efficient.

Thanks Alex. I'll hit the maximum pension pot by the time I am 50 from my calculations. So pouring more would be detrimental? I don't know much about pensions unfortunately.

For a start there's no such thing as a maximum pension pot! There is a Lifetime Allowance, a figure above which pensions are taxable (over and above income tax on withdrawal) though....

Maximum in the sense anything more I will get hammered with tax. I've been advised from others that it isn't worth paying more than this. Like I said, i don't know much about pension (something I will look into in a year or so) as my work does it all for me.
