Do insured pets get priority at vet practices?

Our vet is amazing its first come first served and there are 3 times a day you can go . I book mutters in and leave him in the car because he sets all the other dogs off barking ! they have a tanoy system for those outside .
Not sure if its expensive but i pay £45 a month for pain killers .0 -
“ Our vet is a small family concern (father and son). No posh waiting room or receptionists helps keep the overheads down, which is reflected in the (very reasonable) bills.
For example, a recent infected anal gland (ouch - poor puss!) involved 3 consultations, one drainage procedure (local anaesthetic), 2 antibiotic injections and 1 tube of something soothing for her bum came to the grand total of just over £50.

May I ask which area of the country you live in?
Nowhere near London.
I'd rather not say on an open forum as I don't want to identify which LGPS I worked for (for my LGPS info hat) but if you PM me with your location I'll let you know if you are in their catchment area.0 -
I agree that £50 is amazing value for that treatment, I would pay almost as much for a single visit! However, I have never heard anyone being asked up front about insurance. We go to a large chain vet, cos it is nearest, and have been very happy with the care there. We rarely have to wait more than a few minutes beyond our booked time. Mind you, we don't go that often (crosses finger and touches wood!) so it probably isn't a very representative sample. It's not difficult!

I'm shocked to read that someone can wait couple of hours for an appointment which was agreed earlier. My vet used to run late about 15 minutes, almost all the time, but now it's quite improved with re-furbishment and new facilities. I drive 20 miles/1h to vet and tend to book evening appointments not to be stuck in traffic. Can't imagine waiting couple of hours...
Question about insurance only arise when there's a treatment to be considered.

I took my son to the vet today with his dying rat.
He had no appointment and was seen within five minutes.
I have been with him before with an appointment and never had to wait more than ten minutes.
He has never had any animal insured.
It is a chain vet.
(ETA : Rat euthanised).I used to be seven-day-weekend1 -

No, emergencies are seen first, then urgent patients, then appointment booked appointments (if applicable) and then walk-in non emergencies.0
