Energy company breaking in to my home

This is messy - as said above, you should have read the meters when you moved in and contacted Spark to set up an account with them from the day you moved in and given them the readings you took on the day.
Any money you have paid to your previous suppliers - who you say you took with you - should now be refunded.
You will probably now have prepayment meters fitted which have been loaded with debt from both you and the previous occupier, as well as court costs which will be taken as a percentage of every topup you make.0 -
What did the OP do with the letters addressed to the previous tenant?0

" previous tenant " ?, Actual name in the address on Queens mail, or just previous tenant ?Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. I try to be an even-handed poster and accept that you at times may not agree with these opinions or how I choose to express them, this is not my problem. I'm sorry to hear that this happened. It is not a nice thing to have that happen to you.
I would suggest that you
1) Contact Spark and set up an account with them, provide them with an opening meter read, ask them to calculate what you owe and have the pre-payment meter reflect that
2) Pay off any money that you owe
3) Have a look at a comparison site and decide which supplier you want to switch to
4) If the supplier you want to switch to will change the meter for free, then initiate a switch, if they won't then pick the next best one that will
You could also ask Spark if they would be prepared to switch the meter back for free, but it is probably best that you just get a switch started, and you'll also certainly find a cheaper tariff anyway.
With regards to the warrant, if you want to pursue this then
1) Write to Spark and ask them for their detailed explanation of why they sought a warrant and went ahead with entry
2) Contact the issuing court and ask for a copy of the information that was given when seeking the warrant
3) Contact a solicitor for a free consultation to see if there are any grounds for action
I would also personally open any of the previous tenant's mail that you have reasonable cause to believe is relevant to the matter, or which you have reasonable cause to believe may involve any other issues which may affect you.
Some people are concerned about doing so, due to the Postal Service Act 2000, which states:(3)A person commits an offence if, intending to act to a person’s detriment and without reasonable excuse, he opens a postal packet which he knows or reasonably suspects has been incorrectly delivered to him.0 -
