Aviva and Halifax Household Insurace

Can anyone please advise me what the tie up is between Aviva and Halifax Household Insurance is please.
Aviva have advised me that my Halifax Policy is being withdrawn.
I telephoned Aviva and I asked why.
I was told that they offer better terms if I take out a new policy.
When I asked what the difference was they couldn't tell me and then said it is easier to raise new policies as they are on a different platform.
Apparently I have been with Aviva since 2004, during which I have never made a claim.
I was with Halifax for many years before this, but I cant remember how I came to be with Aviva.
Did Halifax transfer over their household insurance policies at one stage?
I have always had Legal Protection but now they have withdrawn the policy I take it that should I require legal advice regarding previous incidents then I am no longer covered.
