Stock big buys at or after market closure...??

Why and how does this happen?
As an example, a stock that is on the up and has even exceeded targets suggested by brokers/analysts continues to rise. At close of play on a particular day you see listed a huge multi million pound buy. My first thought is how and why is this done? If the perception is that the stock has suddenly risen over a week and looks to have peaked, why would someone shove millions of pounds on the table to buy even more? Is this a form of market manipulation?

Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

Large / bulk trades can be aggregated and reported after close of play; may be an off market deal or a broker to broker cross trade where one market-maker has been buying all day and another has been selling all day and they clear their books against each other so that one doesn't go home long and the other short overnight.
If you get the detailed reporting code from wherever you are sourcing your trade data you can see what type of trade it is - London stock exchange website should have the code definitions.0
