Digital River payments

Hi all. Not sure if I'm in the right section but couldn't find a forum that seemed suitable.

My elderly father has the free version of AVG on his computer and he's noticed that over the last couple of years, 2 payments have come out of his account - one to DRI AVG Technologies for £50 and then a year later a payment to Digital Rive County Clare for £49.99. Has anyone come across this before? I'm a bit unsure about what to do.

I'm sure Digital River used to have something to do with Microsoft as their main channel of purchasing MS office and other paid for software items
But as ever if someone else on here thinks I'm wrong do say so!

Digital River are just a payment processing company. A bit like WorldPay and Paypal.

The fact AVG is on it makes me think you are on the right lines and the card has been used to purchase AVG licences.
  • Hello - I may or may not work for the parent company of the company in question. :)

It's a genuine payment processing company as per Lokolo's suggestion and a trusted gateway provider for AVG licenses.

There's no scam or fraud here, it'll be your father paying for AVG licenses. You may want to cancel it on his behalf and see if the latest payment is refundable.
  • Thanks for this. My only issue is that his computer only has the free version of AVG on it.

Would it be possible that he hasn't activated the paid version even though he's paid for it? As above, I'd probably get in touch and ask them to cancel any subscription he's signed up to, and possibly ask for a refund on software he clearly hasn't used...

He will have clicked on the upgrade button. Not thinking that that is to give you the paid for version & not simply upgrade the software.

Would he have also had to enter his payment information after clicking 'upgrade' - never had AVG so not sure exactly how the upgrade works.
