Some advice please

Hello all,
My son was affected by the French Air Traffic Control strikes last December.

He was informed of his flight cancellation during the evening before he was due to travel.

He then purchased new outward flights using his credit card.
He waited for email confirmation that his flights were purchased. He waited for over an hour without confirmation at which time he started to panic a bit.
He purchased another set of outward flights and got immediate confirmation.
An hour so so later, he got confirmation for his original attempt to re-book.

Can he claim for reimbursement for his first attempt?..maybe from his credit card?

Thank you, for any advise you might have..

There won't be any chance of sustaining a chargeback or section 75 claim from his card provider - he could try complaining to the airline but realistically they'll (rightly) point out that they can't be held responsible for delays in transmitting emails.

No use to him now of course but for future reference, and for the benefit of anyone else reading, he should have phoned the airline concerned rather than simply making another booking on the assumption that the first hadn't worked. In any case, most airlines offering online sales provide a booking reference at the end of the process, which is essentially reconfirmed in the subsequent email....
  • Thank you very much.

I think he booked through a third party booking website rather than direct to an airline and their on line 'help' didn't respond quickly enough.

Some lessons to be learned for sure particularly on the booking reference issue
