My gas company is being taken over, can I switch now?

Firstly, apologies if this is covered somewhere else.
My gas company Engie is being taken over by Octopus. I was in contract with Engie until June. Does anyone know if I have to stay with Octopus until then or can I look around and switch sooner as my company has been taken over? I think they are starting to move customers over in a couple of weeks.
Thank you!

Trying to switch in the middle of a takeover risks getting the whole thing fouled up. There's a risk that the switch notification will go to the closed-down company, and the new supplier carries on billing you when they shouldn't.
Much safe to wait until the dust has settled, then switch. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
Their prices are quite reasonable anyway so I would look at the cheap energy club on this site or uswitch for a deal with Octopus, the Octopus tariffs they have to offer are a lot cheaper than the Octopus site gives, there's nothing to stop you looking while your account transfer is proceeding and you might find that the tariff they put you on is OK anyway.0

Your fixed term contract is still in place at the moment and your supplier has not failed or closed down, it is just being merged into Octopus.
I believe you probably have an early exit fee to pay if you migrate away from Engie now, but if you wait until you are with Octopus there will be no penalty to migrate away then, if it still makes sense to do so...
Octopus have a blog post explaining everything for you...0 -

You'll remain on the same tariff terms, except exit fees will now be waived.
As already mentioned, best not to try and switch until you have been transferred to Octopus.
(If you had already applied to switch, that should not be an issue, except you would presumably have incurred the early exit fees, but as I say, they are now waived.)0 -
Thanks so much for everyone who has taken the time to answer. I'll take your advice and stick where I am for now, as on a fixed price tariff anyway until June. I don't want to mess anything up by causing confusion with supplier while I'm being moved over.0
