O/S Daily Friday 24 January 2020

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and porridge whilst on here.
DS2 settled and happy.

Dark and damp start to the day.

Dinner last night was egg, bacon, sausage and beans - used up bacon that would have gone out of date - so no waste. Tonight will be something and chips, possibly breaded chicken portions - I need to get the food in the outside freezer used up, as MIL and I are buying half a pig - and will share the meat - first time we've done this and hoping it's going to be a good deal, it was advertised at our local butcher's, I'm collecting it next Friday.

Yesterday I got the jobs needed done, and just have a few more to do today, I'll be heading to the dentist first thing, then on to do the food shopping. I then need to continue with the washing - only 1 more load to go, then change our bed and get that bed linen washed. I also have the money admin to do today as it's payday - seems to have been a very long month.

Keep safe and well x

  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC. A dry day forecast but sadly not much in the way of sun.

Sparkle put her crazy cat head back on this morning when I ignored her first wake up call! Now she is sitting beside me all sweetness and light!

I have had to postpone the meter change on Monday after my labours under the stairs. It is the funeral of the ex partner of DS who took her life Xmas Day. After talking with her 1st Husband and 2 sons he has decided to attend as they have all said they'd like him to be there, despite the fact it's more than 4 years since they split. I said I would like to go with him as she was part of our family for a while, despite all the ups and downs and heartache her problems caused us.

I am not in the mood for the Friday Tidy (am I ever?!) but needs must so I will search out my industrious head once eldest DGD has departed for school.

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all our poorlies and sick animals. Take care all xx

    Morning All

Thanks for the start nmlc. You have a payday? Mine isn't until Monday so a quiet weekend for me!

Heavy drizzle out, I can feel my hair curling already! Hopefully it will brighten up later, I want to take little Sophie out for a walk after work, it's surprising how quickly the daylight is extending.

Swimming was hard work last night, I haven't been for ages and it's a shaped leisure pool so swimming in a straight line is just about impossible. Still, DD got out for an hour and enjoyed it so not all bad.

Hope your ankle is on the mend Specky, I think rest means not doing anything?
Thinking of the little one dp1, hope you get some answers soon.

I had a text last night from my broadband provider telling me that it will probably be off from 7am to 4pm, glad I'm at work as the radio runs from the wifi and it would be very quiet.

    Happy Friday, take care. XX
  • Good morning, still dark here and rather cold.

I am meeting two former colleagues for lunch today, we are going to a pub near the training venue that our service has rented for some years. I have been there just once but son displeased with me because I can't remember what it is called, can't find it on the net and nor can I remember what I had to eat. It was quite a long time ago. I can remember what it looks like inside but that's not particularly helpful.

My daffodils in pots now have a sort of odd structure of sticks in each, as I've got fed up replanting the bulbs after the squirrels have dug them out. This is a temporary solution, usually I wouldn't expect them to fish out actual plants, just bulbs but I do have very nosy squirrels. Also greedy.

Hope little dog Kasia is a bit better and that your little granddaughter has a good weekend at home dp1.

TA is is Sparkle Weekiversary today!

Good morning, it's dry here, can't remember the forecast though.

I tackled my windows yesterday, and gave the frames a thorough wash. I'd rung a window cleaner who cleans from the ground, and he was working a couple of streets away so he came round and did the outsides straightaway!! I was ashamed when I saw what a difference it all made. Anyway, he said he will do the outsides monthly, which will give me the incentive to do the inside.

Today, I'm going to get into that spare room and pull everything out - I was looking for something in there last night and shone a torch down the back of a chest of drawers and all I could see was fluff and dust, shocking! We have 2 spare rooms really, but one is taken up with DH's hobby stuff, the kids toys, and I've got my sewing machine in there.

Might try and nip out as well, just down to our main street.

I'm visiting a friend tonight, armed with one of those little bottles of wine.

Speky, hope your ankle is feeling a bit better, please rest it.
DP1, hope your Dgd is doing ok.

Hope everyone has a good day anyway - take care folks

    Morning all

Day off for me today so I shall be puppy wrangling, she went to her first training session last night and was star of the class she got taken up in front of the other puppies to demonstrate her sit and down !! Proud grandma moment !!

We shall take a small walk up to the park later and do a couple of laps round, they did say she still cant have more than a 20 min walk twice a day.

I have a wash on the go and the dw needs emptying, I shall also have a quick tidy through but will leave the main tidy till tomorrow till there are three of us.

Dinner tonight will be quiche with roasted new potatoes with onion and garlic and a nice salad.

Going to have some toast and marmite now and then get on with my day.

    Have good days all xx
  • Good morning,

    Happy Friday!

Aside from work, I didn't get up to too much. Quickly went into the gym, home for a call with my gran whilst I made my dinner and then had an hour or so on the xbox before bed.

No gym this morning as - again - I was shattered when I woke, plus my ankle was particularly sore. I head back to Scotland tonight, so I'll go straight after work. Packed some snacks to keep me company.

You all may be able help given our shared MSE ways...

I switched energy provider, as per ML's advise, and was set to save myself a little bit a month. However my old supplier took £150 out my account without any reason why. I called and they said that this is a calculation based on the new meter readings that my new supplier provided. There's no way I've used £150 worth of energy over my allocation!! But if they're just basing it off the meter readings, how do I dispute this?

Thanks for your help and well wishes.

TA - Oh dear, what a sad day. Nice of you both to attend.

Morning all! Getting up slightly earlier every day...Won't be long before I'm back to normal...Well, the declutter didn't happen...I will attempt it today in between going to the cinema. I can't even say I did anything instead...I'm so lazy...
Went to a Stitch and B..last night, finished one side of the cowl thing I'm making, now attempting a border in a different colour on the long edge. Got a finger wagging for using 'difficult wool' when I'm just learning, apparently, i should be using easy to see stuff and even experienced knitters stay away from it. Well, I'm making this stuff for me and I like the look of the difficult wool [ very fluffy and soft , also difficult to see the stitches, true] and since I'm not scared by any wool because I don't know enough and it's for me, why the hell not...There was a bit of 'ggrrrr taff' last night....
It's quite dull out there but it doesn't feel that cold, mind you, the heatings only just gone off, but i will shower and dress in a minute...maybe one more cup of tea...I have some tofu in the fridge to cook with tonight so I'd better find a recipe for it...something spicy and Korean is on the cards...

Dp1, hope they can find out what's wrong with her...dumpling, glad you had a better day. Gers, ignore neighbours from now on then :) Scarlet, finding one is on my list too, but I can wait till the spring..I don't think I've cleaned mine for two years at least..I gave the windowsills a hoover before Christmas...nanny, like herding cats? lol! ruby, well done! gold star that woman and dog! speky, were the meter readings correct? TA, liking the sparkle stories!
Hope you all have a good day whatever you're doing, hey all readerser alonger.....Firework [ silent for those with pets] Friday!!

    Morning all.

Trying to pull up my ‘Friday Sparkle’...it may appear later on. It’s dull outside though I’m determined to get out there.

    Happy Friday everyone.

Morning all from a dull and dank mehefinland

Not a lot going on , just the same old stuff.
Scoobymare had her hind shoes put back on this week as the girls seemed to have settled a bit now. Heart was in mouth the first time they went out in the field afterwards ( don't want a repetition of the last time) but they were ok. Still wary of each other but finally I think we are getting there. Oh I do so miss my Bruisemare; the latest addition is ok but has no character or personality that I can discern. Just a walking, eating machine. Craps for Wales though!! Must be the messiest mare in the stable that we have ever had, TMI

Sallylab is starting to bash into things as her eyesight gets worse. I know how she feels as I am still on the list for cataract surgery. Just wish they would get a move on. We looked at getting the poor old dog done some years ago but the cost was extortionate and no guarantee of it working. Ho Hum.

Hugs and sppons as always to those in need

Late one from me as i have been out doing chores picked up the dogs meds walked the dogs fed the dogs cooked some chicken for tablet hiding, DW loaded ,WM loaded and went and got some money to pay the window guy as we had a fanlight which had blown in the bathroom so its cheaper to have that replaced than the whole window
