sorry if this is the wrong place but as the title says i drew £140 out of an atm this morning and 2 mins later when i got to the shop i realisedi had left it in the machine.
i went into the bank and was told it may have been sucked back in, in which case i should get it back.
does anyone know how long it takes to get sucked back in, there was no-one waiting to use the machine but people were around. i am hoping noone spotted and swiped it!

It's normally only a few seconds.
Was this a cashpoint at a bank or supermarket or where?
If someone else didn't swipe the money, the cashpoint will have taken it back in.
Call your own bank branch and let them know which machine, which bank etc, however the re-credit quite often happens automatically. I wouldn't rely on that though.
The operator of the machine will know that cash has been drawn back in and their machine balance will be incorrect.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
it would of gone back within seconds as already said, happened to me with with my card whilst i was putting money into my purse.to slow taking it i was told.if no one was near they really wouldnt of had time to take it i dont think, must be worrying though, good luck0

It's not that quick - I saw a machine with a thick wad of 20s sticking out of it the other day. There hadn't been anyone at the machine for 10 secs+ (had been fidd;ing with my wallet), and it wasn't obvious who had been the previous user as its a main road. Quite easily I could have taken that cash, as could any number of others.0

it was at a supermarket, i went straight to the bank and they gave me a number to ring. they cant do anything for 48 hrs though, i supose they have to see if it goes back in automatically.
just hope no-one took it. am sure no-one was behind me so fingers crossed.- prior planning prevents poor performance!

I left some money in a cash machine, but I wasn't lucky and someone must have taken it. If you have told the bank, you will just have to wait until they have checked the balance on their machine. Make sure you have all the details written down, where it was, date and time as close as you can remember in case they ask for more info. Fingers crossed for you.0

I was in a queue for a cash machine and noticed that the person in front of me had gone and not taken their money. I tried to call them back but they walked on. I contacted the bank who owned the cash machine and after giving them my details, they were able to reunite the money with the owner. I got a lovely card from the girl who owned the money. She said that she was at university and that she was so stressed out about her exams she forgot to take the money.Jellynose0

Your bank should have what is called a disputed atm transaction form. If it is the same bank you are with and branch could be done within a week as cash machines are balanced weekly and any excesses are put on a suspense account. The money sucked back in is recorded on an atm roll in the cash machine.0

ARFSTER i hope you took the money. i wish i had that chance that sorta money would come in handy
Nope. I wasn't sure whether leaving it would result in the bank greedily just keeping it for themselves though, so did consider taking it and trying to get in touch with the owner. Pretty impractical though (would the bank even tell me?), and I did suspect the machine would autocredit it back to the previous withdrawer - by the time this went through my head it was swallowed back anyway.
Yes, I could have done with the money too, but not that badly. What if the other person was only just managing to pay their bills, and this tipped them beyond the point they could pay their cc bill/mortgage etc?0 -
How asleep do you have to be to use an ATM and forget to take the money? Surely that's like walking into Tesco with a shopping list in one hand, walking round the store with a trolley, then walking home have 'forgotten' to actually do any shopping...?

I would NEVER wish I had the chance to take someone else's money in that fashion  especially that amount - it's totally different to finding a fiver in the street ! It could be from someone worse off than you too - can you imagine the hardship and distress it could cause. If you ever do " get the chance " I hope someone catches you red handed !" Baggy, and a bit loose at the seams.. "~ November 8th 2008. Now totally DEBT FREE !~0
