in Cutting tax
Hi all, hoping for some advice that google is proving hard to uncover.
I am a doctor and I'm aware that I can claim the cost of my stethoscope purchase back from the income tax i've paid come April, as it is used only for work and it is an essential item.
If paid for the stethoscope using vouchers on Amazon, would I still be able to claim the stethoscope cost back from income tax?
Sorry if this is an obvious question to others!

Are you sure you're not overcomplicating life?
Do you intend contacting HMRC to claim this as an expense or are you in including it on a Self Assessment return?0 -
I contact HMRC to claim it as an expense.0

A phone call would probably be sufficient.
But you are mistaken about one thing.would I still be able to claim the stethoscope cost back from income tax?
HMRC do not reimburse you for your job expenses. You can claim tax relief on the cost but this might end up with you getting maybe 20% or 40% of the cost back.0 -
Also be aware if you are an employee then the expense needs to be wholly, exclusively and necessarily incurred for buisness purposes.
I mention this as the trusts here provide stethoscopes. So doctors at those trusts can't claim tax relief if they want to purchase a different model, even if its better than the one provided by their employer.
Similarly, most of the trusts here provide laundry facilities so they don't get flat rate either, even if they choose to wash their items at home. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
Im aware of that. Just poorly worded question
Guess il try it call nearer the time0 -
you could use a P87 to make expenses claims under 2500, to include your GMC and indemnity cost for example.
