Wrong wardrobe delivered.... advice please

Hi
I bought several items of furniture last weekend at a warehouse sale. This included a wardrobe which was reduced from £999 to £199. I paid for delivery the next day and as promised they arrived with the four items purchased.
However when they brought in the wardrobe it was not the same one I had bought. The one delivered had a label with another delivery number and price.
I showed the guys a photo of the one I bought and they said they’d delivered another similar one that morning elsewhere.
They took it back and promised to sort it.
I contacted the company first thing Monday and was advised that they didn’t know what had happened but it seems like it was sold again ( incidentally whilst I was paying a text came in asking to reserve it and we discussed the fact that it was too late!)
I was offered to go back and look at what else they had in the warehouse however the only one which was possibly okay is the one delivered in error on Sunday.
I did agree to take it begrudgingly and asked them to further reduce it because of the inconvenience they have caused and the fact that it was cheaper wardrobe. They’ve offered to reduce it to £179 however I want to know where I stand in that they seemingly have sold my wardrobe which is paid for and apparently are not doing anything to rectify this.
Advice please! Can I insist that they go back to whoever they sold it to and explain their mistake? I’m also wondering why the one delivered with another name on it is still in the warehouse? I suspect that means the person on the sale card has mine.

You cannot force them to go into someone else’s home and remove the wardrobe they sent them if they don’t want that hassle. Maybe the wardrobe was double sold, they clearly aren’t very organised.
If you’re happy with the second wardrobe at £179, then take that, or try get it cheaper. Otherwise take a refund and source another wardrobe you prefer0 -
When you say a warehouse sale, do you mean an auction?0
-
Not an auction. It’s a company who has a large showroom and also a warehouse nearby. The warehouse is being demolished in a couple of weeks ( I think they’re moving as they’re not closing down) so they’re selling off the stock very reduced).0

I don’t expect them to force whoever got the wardrobe to give it to me! Obviously it’s not their fault although it seems they may not have the wardrobe they actually bought.
I am asking for a bigger reduction on the one I’ve been left with firstly because they’ve clearly messed up but also because the one I actually bought originally was being sold for £300 more!
I fully appreciate that £199 is not a bad price for the wardrobe anyway.
What I’m not clear about is the legal situation as they’ve not delivered the item I actually bought.0 -
They are unable to deliver the item you bought - for whatever reason. It could just as easily have got badly damaged en route. You either accept the alternative, try to negotiate a larger discount or have a refund. There must be thousands of wardrobes out there looking for a home - have you looked on Gumtree?0

The legal situation is that you can insist they collect the item you have been given and refund you anything you've paid.Strawbreeze wrote: »I don’t expect them to force whoever got the wardrobe to give it to me!
