Help - Wardrobes from DWH ( new home) or look myself?

Hi all
I am in the process of buying a DWH home and am wondering if anyone has any experience with the wardrobes they offer.
I am being quoted £1250 for a 3 door sliding and £550 pound for a normal 2 door
Extra stuff like more rails and shelves is extra ranging from £180 to £200
Should I go ahead or is there a good chance I could find better quality stuff at a similar price
Would really appreciate the help
Thank you in advance

As a rough rule of thumb, any "options" by the developer will be mediocre and overpriced.
Don't even consider them, unless they're going to be a lot harder to build in after completion. That doesn't apply to a wardrobe.0 -
I wouldn't bother with the wardrobes. You will be able to get them cheaper and better from a local company after you have moved in.
We bought a David Wilson Homes house last year. We didn't have the optional wardrobes but our neighbours did. The ones we bought afterwards are much better quality and were much cheaper.0 -
Go to Ikea. Any decent joiner can make them look properly fitted and you will be able to choose all of your fittings and probably get change from what DWH will charge. They probably won't even have carcasses :rotfl:Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Or buying secondhand you will (at least up here) get a choice of some very nice wardrobes for a few hundred - and a pretty decent choice for a hundred pounds or so. It's more hassle than buying new - you may have to organise delivery - but I've saved a good couple of thousand furnishing my house compared to buying new.
If I was spending £1k+ on a wardrobe I'd get a nice antique one myself... You could also get a local joiner to make.a good qualityy fitted one and have change.0 -
I specifically asked the developers to leave out the built in wardrobes (which were included in the price) when I bought a new build. I've always thought they limit a room, and I didn't like what they were offering anyway. Instead I used Ikea Pax wardrobes, which look great and the interior fittings are excellent. Because they were almost as tall as the ceiling (~2cm shorter) they looked built in, but you could easily have the space above enclosed if you're left with more room. We were also able to take them with us to the next house after carefully disassembling them.0
