Should I sell my car

Hi All

So recently in the last few weeks I have started a new job within 15 minutes walk of home and it is going extremely well.

The issue is that because I walk to work every day now my car isn't being used and is left on the driveway all week.

In fact since 2nd January I have only driven 20 miles and that was mainly to see my parents or when we went out for a meal.

So my quandary is do I sell the car for this very reason? I am named on my partners Car insurance so can use their car if I need to when they are not using it which isn't all that often.

I have it valued on We Buy any Car and have got a good price quoted as it is only 5 years old.

Any help appreciated please

You will need to wait for 3 months of ownership if you want to sell it to webuyanycarforafractionofthevalue.

But if you want to sell it due to lack of use then go ahead.

I have owned the car for 3 years.

Sounds like you might as well sell it. Will save a few quid on depreciation, Servicing, MOT, repairs, road tax and insurance!

NB If you do sell and YOH has a car it may pay you to "swap" main driver status every year as that way I think you may maintain your NCD?..just a though.

With the money you save you could always hire a car on the odd occasions you may need one?

Absolutely sell it. As Brilley says, the savings in all those areas will pay for plenty of taxis, buses, trains and even car hire on the rare occasions you'll need it.

I used the Arnold Clark car buying service https://www.arnoldclark.com/sell-my-car and was very pleasantly suprised, no messing around on price even given some stone chips / scratches. There are quite a few similar services, worth shopping around.

A car that sits unused needs even more maintenance than a regularly used one. I'd sell it now and used and put the money saved towards taxis when you need the.

If you are honest in your initial online assessment of the condition you won't get much knocked off.

I sold a Mondeo valued around £9500 to them last year and they knocked a couple of hundred off the online quote for additional items.

It depends on the age of the car. If it is more than, say 12 years old then the depreciation will not be very much each year.
