PPI qHSBC saying I only had a credit card in 2004 but I am sure I had one a few years before that...

Hi, I have (finally) received my PPI outcome from HSBC, a repayment of £705.60. My issue is that I am 99.99999% sure that I had an HSBC gold credit card around 1998- 2002 and not 20/08/2004 - 30/10/2005 as they have stated.

I called them about this as I could SWEAR that I had that gold credit card when I was at college in 1998-. I remember at the time joking about how ridiculous it was that I had been given a GOLD credit when I was a poor student. The dates HSBC said I had the card in 2004-5 I actually had a child and had grown up a bit and was trying to get rid of my debt. The owman on the phone at HSBC was adamant I didn't have a card at all in 98-02.

Has anyone had any experience of HSBC or a bank getting dates wrong? Would this even be possible with computer systems in place? Am i just completely remembering wrong?

Would the 2004-5 dates just be when I was charged PPI, rather than the whole time I actually had the credit card?

I kind of want to claim my £705 but not if I am actually owed more.. Can anyone advise me please?

Thanks :)

If you have evidence to the contrary then you supply it... if it is only vague recollections then I’m afraid it’s a no go.

Keep in mind HSBC will not be stating that you didn’t have another card, merely that they hold no record of it. Given the passage of time that would seem reasonable as they are not to keep records longer than necessary.

Well, your recollection could be suspect.
S, you could send them a SAR to see what info they have left. They may have added a new system that they hadn't previously accessed to see you did have a gold card, they may not.
If you did have a gold card, then that card would have had to have been an original card that the card you complained about descended from which is unlikely. If it had been then you have already complained about this card so the spend on the rest should be fine to complain about,.
However, firstly, it is unlikely there is anything left regarding this card you think you had. Then you have the problem that if they do find any info, you are relying on this card being the precursor to the one you compained about because if it isn't, the complaint deadline has passed.

You're really on a hiding to nothing. Forget it.
