No credit history

Is it possible to still get a mortgage if your partner doesn’t have a credit history, through just never getting in debt and paying everything straight up? No credit cards and no direct debits. Will it be pointless even trying to get a house?

No credit history?
So no bank account? Not on electoral register? No financial links to you?
Mortgages arent that hard to get. Lenders primarily just want to be assured you can pay them back and as such have tried and tested criteria designed to limit their risk. For the most part, if its affordable, someone will lend you the money, providing you dont have a history of not repaying your debts.
Its not a reason to absolutely refuse a mortgage. Having no income is a reason to refuse a mortgage, not having had a credit card isnt. There will be loads of variables, our mortgage was taken out disregarding half of my income as it would complicate the application so whilst there is hoops to jump through, you can normally position them to jump through more easily.0 -
She has a bank account yes, and is on the electoral register. No financial links to me she’s been at home all her life so far so pretty much had everything paid for like phone contract etc. So had just saved up her money instead bought a car outright so never did any finance.0

Is it to late for her mum to put it in her name now if we plan on getting a mortgage in a few months? I’ve been told it’s not a good idea to get a credit card before a mortgage application.0

Who do you bank with? You could try them?
YOu could try a mortgage broker.
Everyone has a credit history, some have more than others but with a bank account you have something.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. It’s more for my girlfriend, she banks with TSB, we shall be going through a mortgage broker when we are ready, my side doesn’t concern me I’ve had a mortgage had direct debits, credit card all the stuff never missed a payment etc, as we will be joining together for a mortgage this time I don’t want her to mess my credit score up if we get rejected, or does it go on the individual?
Would it be beneficial if I got her mum to put the direct debits in her name for the phone?0 -
Maybe get her to take out a credit card for monthly fuel or food bills and settle them when the statement comes in. Do that for 6 months and she will have some history building up.0

That would be the idea, but I’m currently trying to sell my house through the new build developers so if I sell it we will be reserving a plot then going ahead with it. I just don’t want to get so far where she ends up getting rejected and then we may as well just wait.0

Has she actually looked at her history? The Experian report is free here on Credit Club.0

Yes her credit score is good, but it can be good and still be rejected I’m guessing.0

It doesn't matter what her score is. It's her credit history that matters.
The score is just a made up number that only you see. It's purely for entertainment purposes.0
