Cheaper Car Insurance Question

Hi All,

Currently im unemployed but planning to start my own business, my car insurance is due tomorrow and there is a big difference in price between being a house dad and unemployed.
Question is: I have children and I am at home, I am also unemployed, if I put down im a house dad is that ok and legal/?

Any advice is really appreciated as i want to be legal but i also need to save on costs

...and you're actively looking for work?

"House dad" is a choice that you're happy maintaining.
    Unemployment is not.

And why the premium difference? Because insurers find unemployed people make more claims and cost them more... Perhaps it's because "house dads" drive more carefully with their kids in the car, perhaps it's because unemployed people can't afford to spend money on maintaining their cars... Nobody but the actuaries working for the insurers know - but they don't make premiums more expensive for no reason.
  • Planning to start my own business, but currently listed as unemployed. Its nearly a £200 difference between unemployed and a house dad, I just wanted to ask for advice, that was all.

Planning to start a business and starting a business are two very different things. At this point, I don't think anyone would think you're anything other than unemployed.

To be claiming unemployment benefits, you must be demonstrating that you're actively looking for work...

Maybe you could list your profession, does it actually ask your salary and whether you are employed in that profession?
You may be a teacher, but just between jobs :)
