Time limit for credit

Back in November 2011, I ordered 10x1kg of frozen raw dog food from Natural Instinct. The delivery came, but four of the 1kg packs were partially defrosted. I called Natural Instinct and they agreed to credit my account for these (although with hindsight, I should have asked for a refund, as I think I was my right). Anyway, I did not re-order from them as my dog was an extremely picky eater as a youngster and decided she would not eat raw at all so I did not use my credit. However, she is now much older and less fussy, and I have been successful in switching her to a raw diet again, so I contacted Natural Instinct to use my credit... I was told it is no longer valid. While I realise that 2011 is a long time ago, Natural Instinct did not advise me that my credit was time limited - if they had, I would have asked for a refund or at least used the credit to buy food for a friend or relative's dog. I know it's only 4x1kg of dog food, but I do feel let down and somewhat cheated - after all, it wasn't my fault the original delivery arrived defrosted. And I just worked out that it would have taken me an hour and a half of my meagre wage to earn enough to pay for that 4x1kg of dog food! Should I give up or pursue???

After 8 years I would give up, IMO.

After this long there is nothing you can do, although for future reference as a raw feeder partially defrosted dog food is perfectly fine to refreeze, most of us raw feeders buy in bulk and partially defrost things to portion up before refreezing, even raw suppliers still meet DEFRA guidelines if the food is partially defrosted and then refrozen.

ETA: depending on where you are in the country it's worth looking into other more local suppliers as NI don't have a particularly good reputation in the raw feeding world, the quality leaves a lot to be desired, their ratios are out of proportion with a lot of bone heavy meals (people who feed the "completes" still add extra boneless to even it out), they don't have much variety, and they are not competitively priced.

The standard time limit for debts is six or five years depending which jurisdiction you're in, so you're out of time anyway even if nothing explicit was stated.
  • Thanks all. Fosterdog, I am in Surrey. Have been feeding Cotswold Raw and Benyfit. Any other recommendations? I won't use Natural Instinct again!!!

If you are on Facebook join the group Raw Feeding UK in the files section they have a list of suppliers around the country. I used to stick to one supplier and two brands of food but found that availability can get limited if they have supply issues and each brand has different quality. I now use three different local suppliers and there is a fourth I've been meaning to visit to try out. Between them all they do some of their own brand food but also a nice selection of others including Bulmers, MVM, landywoods, paleo ridge, just natural, RTPF, dogs butcher, happy hounds, kiezerbrink, thistle, furry feasts, and others I can't remember off the top of my head. I really do get a good variety between them all.
