'Satisfied' on credit file

Options
Hi,

4 years ago, I got frustrated at never being able to get through to a call centre to cancel a mobile phone connection - it's was a £10 a month sim only data contract for an old iPad, but whenever I tried to call Three to cancel, I would always be on hold for 45+ mins and never get through to anyone. It was a rolling month to month contract - not in any '2 year fixed term period'.

Eventually I just cancelled the DDI (I know - bad idea) and then when they called me to chase I paid the whole outstanding amount and closed the account then. So in the end it was £40 which I paid fully and they closed the account.

Three marked my credit file as 3 months of defaults and then 'Satisfied' rather than 'Settled' which all my other closed accounts is showing. That was all dealt with in Jan 2017 (although the first month of 'default' payment was Sept 2016).

So, is that actually affecting my score? I've got a high rate credit card that I'd like to do a balance transfer on but I'm getting rejected (I try this around once every 6 months and generally through the 'check if your eligible before applying' so that shouldn't be affecting my credit file?).

Since Jan 2017 I've not missed any other payments (phone bills, telecoms, gas, electric, credit cards, loans) but my credit score through Clearscore, Credit Karma and MSE Credit Club stays stubbornly low.

So, is it that issue that's keeping my score down and I just need to wait it out (2 more years?).
Should Three have marked it as 'Satisfied' or 'Settled' as I paid the whole outstanding amount and would that make a difference?

If the account did default then it being marked as satisfied is correct and it'll take another three-ish years to drop off.

Your score despite being seen by you is just a number, no 1 else can see it, what matters is your credit history.

Maybe you should look at your spending and cut back.
