Not the good start to 2020 that we'd hoped.

As 2019 ended, things looked good for me and my little family here. I was just retiring, DS and his wife had agreed a sale on their family home in the Midlands which meant that they were in a position to buy my house and then we were to build a granny annexe in the garden. We'd had plans drawn up, the application for planning permission was going through, their mortgage had been agreed and everything looked as if it was going swimmingly.
Until yesterday when DS came home from lunch early, from the dream job that he had taken just six months ago, with the news that his job no longer existed :-( So now, with no job, the mortgage offer is rescinded and the plans are back on the shelf and everything is back in limbo.
Hopefully, it won't take him long to find something else, but who knows??

Really sorry to hear about that.
Hope he find something soon and you can get all your plans back on track.0 -
Hope things improve. Not great here either - my FIL died on 30/12. The funeral was last Fri. Friend's dad is also dying and may not last the week. It's been a totally crap start to the year2024 wins: *must start comping again!*0

I'm really sorry to hear that your plans are scuppered, especially as they were pretty far along.
I hope he finds another job - even if it's not his dream - soon.0 -
Sorry to hear your news.
Life has a way of rearing up and slapping us down . . . often when we think we're going along nicely!0 -
Sorry to hear of this.
Can your DS and wife, afford to build the extension, move into the house and you move into the new build? then when matters improve they buy your house.
Good luck to your DS in his job hunting.Breast Cancer Now 100 miles October 2022 100 / 100miles

We're looking at all possibilities and resources at the moment - the first (most important) thing is for DS to find a job! DDiL is also going to look for work - but with 20month old twins, it's going to be hard. I may also look too.....but at nearly 77, I'm not too sure whether I can still get back on that horse (even though I have only just left a job!)0
