O/S Daily Wednesday 22 January 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Dark and foggy start to the morning here, not so cold though.
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, DS1 getting ready for work and I'm showered, dressed and enjoying first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and ok.
Dinner last night was ham and cheese omelettes, menfolk had chips with theirs, I had salad with mine. Remembered to get chicken out to defrost so we'll be having roast chicken thighs, mash, veg and gravy for tonight's dinner.
Work yesterday was quite quiet, but we had several things going on in the office, meetings etc and technology I was scheduled to use hadn't been set up properly after updates had been completed, so didn't have a system to use and the other system was down also, got there eventually. Last working day of the week for me, so have a "to do" list ready for tomorrow - going to be a busy day. Also payday this week to, seems a long time since the last one!
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. A mild start here and forecast to reach double figures (10 deg) by lunchtime. I think we are getting sent someone else's weather!!
The insomniac cat had me up at silly o'clock again, tearing all round the house like a maniac and having another go at stripping the wallpaper. Would it be cruel to put a ball and chain on a cat do you think!!
Lovely lunch yesterday as always but we could be in danger of losing our favourite coffee shop. Staff are fearing it could be the next high street casualty. It would be a sad day to see it go.
I stuck to my promise to myself yesterday and cleaned the oven and then progressed to cleaning the dw filter - that is my most hated job even though I do try to keep up with it.
Today I must venture under the stairs. They are coming to change the meter on Monday and, as it is, they will never get under there. Time to be ruthless with lots of toys the girls have long outgrown. And how many shopping bags does one person need!
Great excitement this morning! I had an e mail from Ancestry to say my DNA result should be with me by the end of the week. I hope it isn't a big disappointment when it finally arrives!
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need. Poor SPEKY get your feet up and rest that ankle. RR such a worry with DD's ex but at least the police are on the case. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning All
Thanks for the start nmlc, we have another week to go until pay day, how come January is longer than any other month!
We have a new system going live at work today, looking forward to getting my teeth into something new and dreading all the calls we will have. Still, we can only do what we can do!
I had a lovely dinner of prawns and anything green from the fridge last night, broccoli, kale and spinach. Not sure I really enjoyed it but it must have done some good. That and the beans I had at lunch made for an interesting evening.
I think rest is the order of the next few weeks Speky, hope the ankle heals quickly.
What a mess RR, keep safe.
Have a good day everyone, take care. XX0 -
Morning :hello:
Tru, I know it’s a little way away from you but M&S at Cribbs takes all the black etc plastic. We take ours there every six weeks or so and our black bin now has less than one bin bag every 2 weeks.
Not sure why my quote didn’t work correctly. Hope Tru sees this...
I did, thank you
I don't go down there very often – actually I never go, I hate shopping! - but we go past a few times a year. It's easy enough to nip off the M5 then back on again. I'll save the plastic for when we're passing. Just need to find somewhere to store it now
redruby Thinking of you all xx
Speky Take it easy! x
My cold seems to be drying up. I've been lucky I think, other people have had it worse than this and it's lasted longer. I'm not going to jump back into my normal routine just yet, colds have a tendency to trick you into feeling better then return with a vengeanceI'll carry on pottering about for now until I'm sure it's gone.
I will move a bit more than I have done lately though, my hip is stiffening up and I'm a bit bored. Walks with Scamp won't help, he'd decided he hates everything again and I have to cut some walks short and bring him back home – where he decides to stand and bark out of the windows! Today I'll be shifting a couple of things away from windows so he can't reach to see out, then give him a refresher course on manners, lol. I've subscribed to the yoga channel that camelot mentioned (thank you!) and will try one of the videos today.

Its DH's birthday but not a great day for us our beautiful ex guide dog is not well at all and has been backwards and forwards to the vet since Friday today i need to drop her off at 9am and she has scans X-rays and blood tests today so i am going to have to pull the purse strings super tight we are really worried as the vet thinks heart failure or a tumour so we will await the outcome later today
Right today i will be scrubbing the house from top to bottom in an attempt to keep busy .
Have a great day whatever you are up to xxSlava Ukraini0 -

I laughed at your "interesting evening" Camelot!!
TA, if we don't hear any more from you we'll know you're trapped under the stairs.
RR, hope you and DD are ok.
Meeting a friend this morning and she's coming back here for lunch so I'd better get my arris into gear and tidy up
Take care folks0 -
Morning all
Cold frosty and foggy here Im off to work after this, I have put the dw on so will empty that tonight when I get back.
Jacket spuds for dinner tonight with cheese ham and salad, there is also some houmous to use up so will put that with it.
DD and I have to go to the police station tonight I have to give a statement about the way he acted towards us the day we got dd's stuff out and dd has to give a victim statement incase it goes to court. I will shove the spuds in before we go so it will be quick once back.
Im going to look at doing an online shop tonight too will see how much delivery etc is, we are both getting fed up going shopping on a Saturday, once you have done that and the cleaning the day has mostly gone.
Specky - ouch !! rest that ankle please xx
Bella I do hope the dear dog is ok, I shall be thinking of them xx
Have good days all xx0 -
Good morning
Another bright day here. I think that must be 5 in a row. A record!
We are back to normal,, or what passes as normal, here. A stroll round the outlet centre, with coffee and shared cake yesterday, a trip to the supermarket today. DS popped in after work yesterday (I think he sniffed out there was chocolate cake in the tin!), DD coming for tea tomorrow. All uneventful, and just the way we like it!
Speky - please be sure to rest that ankle. It sounds painful
Red Ruby - what a worry for you all. I hope it soon all calms down.
Bella - Fingers crossed that all goes well. Manic house cleaning is what I do when worried!
Hope the sun shines on us all today.0 -
Good morning everyone,
As per doctors orders, I spent last night resting, with my foot wrapped in ice and in an elevated position. That was until I got a text from The Girl From Chester who had just called herself an ambulance with severe stomach pains. Unfortunately members of her family couldn't attend so I offered and she said she would appreciate it. So I was back in hospital till midnight.
Subsequently, I've not been to the gym this morning but I will go after work. My foot feels a bit better which I put down to wearing a more comfortable shoe during the day. Health alternative to beans on toast for dinner tonight; spiced chickpeas on jalapeno and cheese sourdough.
camelot - I'm the same as you with payday coming next week. It truly does seem like the longest month ever!
Tru - Good luck with your yoga. As my yoga teacher tells us all, 'you can only do what you can only do'. Meaning, don't feel disheartened if you're not able to copy video move for move.
bella - I'm sorry to hear that. What a day of mixed emotions. Fingers crossed your little pal pulls through0 -
Bella, I'm hoping for a happy birthday for your DH with a good outcome for the pup.
Speky, I hope the gf is feeling better now.
RR I hope he sees sense and decides to leave your DD alone from now on.
We have an electrician here atm. We'd asked him to check over the electrics and he found that someone had chopped off all the earth wires to sockets etc for no reason at all so he is rectifying that. We need to buy a new microwave because the present one has started flashing bright lights inside (no we haven't put anything metal in it).
I want to go and see my aunt today if possible. It's been ages since I saw her and I like to keep in touch as much as possible.
Apart from that not a lot is happening, it's foggy and grey outside and that's making the living room too gloomy to hand sew, I'll have to ead my kindle instead.0 -
Goid morning, very dull here today but not the bitingly cold air that we have had.
I'm having a busy week so have just caught up. Bella I hope your dog will be ok. RR hope he stays away. Speky do be careful! TA sounds as if Sparkle is keeping you on your toes.
I'm having a busy week, met an old friend on Monday, worked yesterday, am meant to be on a training day today but it was cancelled so will probably do some more work, phone supervision tomorrow and lunch with my former lovely colleagues on Friday. For now, I'm just mollocking about. I've been watching 3 squirrels having a party in the garden. One on the bird table, one doing acrobatics on the fence and one very naughty one that got bored waiting for a turn on the bird table so it dug up two bulbs and ate them looking at me, then did some jumps in my pansy pot and finally dug a hole in the lawn. It is on the bird table now but there is not much left.
I must organise myself and do something productive so I'll wish you all a happy day.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0
