I have asked Abbey to send me the security number and password to manage my credit card account online. I have received the security number today, but I did notice that the envelope seems to have never been sealed, but the tab don't seem to have been tampered with.
Is it allright to use it, as I can change it as soon as I register online, or should I tell them about it and ask for another one?
It says on the letter that with my security number, my card number and internet ID I could register online. But I was told on the phone that I needed to get a password as well which will be sent at around the same time as the security number. Should I wait for the password or was it another fantasy answer from Abbey?

I suspect that the envelope just missed out on getting sealed automatically.
For maximum security, you should ask them to send another one. Personally, as the flap covering the actual number looks OK, I'd use the one you've got and then change it. To all practical intents and purposes, isn't this the same as changing a new one?
The password is always sent separately.
I suppose you ought to ring them, just in case they have a problem with their mail room machinery. However, the mandatory call steering system and probable foreign call centre at the end of it do act as a disincentive to trying to do them a favour. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -

The security number alone is of no use to anyone. That's why the password is sent separately.People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0 -

Yes. You'll need the password to log on.People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0 -
Well, let's hope they won't take too long to send me the password. Something I did notice with Abbey, if they say you should receive something within 10 days, you are better off waiting at least 7 to 10 days after that before contacting them again, as they never send anything within the time they are telling you originally. I contacted them to get the log on details 3 weeks ago, was told 5 to 10 days.0
