You are quite correct.... and it may sound trivial to some people, but we want our wedding to be 100% perfect :(

Then at some point in the day you are likely to be disappointed. Things change or don't go as planned which makes any day far more stressful for perfectionists and harder to enjoy.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

    3. A £3174 cash settlement, minus £150 excess.

None of these options “put me back in a pre-insured event position” as their claims handlers have quoted at me throughout this process.

I'm guessing their offer would allow you to buy a replacement and therefore put you back in the pre-event position
  • How can you buy a replacement for a £5,000 ring at £3174?

I bought a ring a while back for £750 that came with an insurance valuation of £1500. I could've bought the same ring again at £750.

I was thinking exactly the same thing.

No wedding will be 100% perfect, and if the slightest hitch will "ruin" the day for you, then you're setting yourself up for disappointment.

Stuff happens, usually of which you have no control over. How you react to it, will in itself impact on how you FEEL about your wedding day.

As for the claim...regardless of what the valuation states, what did you actually PAY?

If you don't manage to get this sorted and a new ring bought before the wedding, please don't go banging on about it all day to your guests!! They probably won't even notice that your new bride is not wearing an engagement ring....they'll just be thinking "when will these **** photos be finished" and "where's the food" or "when does the bar open" !!!
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)
