Young Driver

Hi all
Our son is currently undertaking his driving lessons and is due to take his theory test in a couple of weeks and hopefully his practical in the next few months.
We've started to think about the best way forwards for him.
He will be 18 in July this year and is on the Autistic spectrum but is only mildly affected, more with social skill problems than anything else. I'm not sure if this is something that has to be disclosed or mentioned?
Anyway, my wife and I have a multi-car insurance and we are looking for the best way to get him going when he gets his own car. My intention is he should start with something like a few hundred pounds for his first car, then you learn to look after it and don't get upset when you have your first scrape on that garden wall!
But what to do about insurance? I believe Year 1 he will probably have to pay a lump sum? And others tell me to put him on ours, but we want the best route for him to be able to stand on his own two feet as soon as possible!
Any advice very gratefully received!
