Prepayment Meter in Credit Mode?
Hi all, I have been a follower of the forum and it has helped me many times in the past - however this is my first post for help!
I am a new homeowner, recently moved into my first property that has a prepayment meter for the electric (normal credit meter for gas). EDF for Electric and Scottish Power for Gas.
It has became clear that the reason for this was due to the previous owners running up debt - which has since been resolved. That is not the issue.
I have had an absolute nightmare trying to get the meter switched with EDF - who claim that the national database states that my meter is already a credit meter, despite me providing numerous photographs, serial number etc of the meter in question, and despite me finding out that they fitted it in July 2019, but have no record of it. In turn I have been approached by Scottish Gas who promised to change my meter if I switch my electric supply to them.
It transpires now that the Scottish Gas sales rep on the phone has told me that once the switch is complete in 3 weeks time, that they will change the meter into 'credit mode' which will allow me to keep the existing infrastructure in place and they will simply bill me accordingly and won't have to change the meter out. Is this true? I can't find a lot online regarding 'credit mode' on a prepayment meter that describes in the way it has been described to me. After asking for confirmation of this, due to the frustration I have had with EDF, she told me it will be fine and to call back in a weeks time to make sure they have the correct meter information, which gives me no hope.
The meter is 'TALEXUS ACE9000 KBD ITRON'
Can this be both a prepayment and a credit meter, switchable and readable by the provider?
I would appreciate any assistance
Many thanks - Chris :money:

Hi, thanks for your quick reply - do you have first hand experience of this?
I seem to get contradictory information from the many customer service advisors both on the phone and online chat that I speak to about this. Also googling for the information hasn't turned up much useful information.0
