New Laptop - poor keyboard

I purchased a new HP Pavilion laptop just before Christmas. Cost me £455. This is my third laptop.

I'm happy with the purchase apart from one thing I've never encountered before.

The Keyboard is dark grey, and the keys themselves are picked out in light grey. Result - the keys are very difficult to see in anything other than strong light.

This is something I never gave a thought to when looking at the laptop in the brightly lit showroom.

After a couple of weeks struggling, I purchased some stick on fluorescent keys from Amazon for a few quid and put them on selected keys like the colon and semi colon, hashtag and a few others that I had difficulty identifying.

This is bad design, and something I shall certainly check for in future.

If the laptop came in different colours, you might be able to replace the keyboard with another one with better-looking keys. I saw an Asus laptop with a shiny grey keyboard that was really horrible even to look at.

I had that problem with an old laptop. It wasn't a problem most of the time as I touch type, but, occasionally I'd need to look at some of the rarer keys..
I solved it (to some extent) by using something similar to THIS.

£455 and no backlit keyboard? What did you get for your money?

No backlit keyboard is a deal-breaker for me on any laptop
